The thing about trapping Calypso into a body is that they could have chosen any woman’s body but, they chose a black woman’s body and I just wondered if that was a comment on the race/gender relations of the time. Why not trap her into the body of a woman who’s likely to be enslaved while they were at it because what would be more humiliating for a goddess who, well, wasn’t submissive to a (white) man?


The movie draws a direct parallel to the transatlantic slave trade.

I didn’t draw that parallel but thank you for pointing that out.
