DVD signing; vidding musings
So I'm going to the Cambridge DVD signing on Sunday. Yo,
evenstarjuliet -- can I borrow your digital camera? Anyway...
I walked to Strawberries this afternoon (the video store where the signing is taking place). It's about a half hour's walk from my dorm. Easy to find, thank God. At least, I thought so. I asked a guy working there, and he said that people would probably start lining up around 6:00am. Now, I'm actually used to keeping a very skewed sleep schedule, so the timing is not a problem.
However, I'm going to have to find someone to go with me, otherwise I'll be traipsing along, vulnerable and alone, down what people on my campus like to refer to as "rape street" at thesunstillhasn'tfuckingcomeupyet o'clock in the morning. Singing the "Pepper Spray" song. It's a catchy little tune I just made up.
Hopefully I'll be able to hook up with some LJ people.
f1renze especially, since you're the only one I know who's going and who I've also spoken to on IM. Because if I'm the only one holding my place in line, I won't be able to pee for half a day. Not. Fun. So I'll just say that I'm five feet tall, I have *very* curly black hair that goes down to my shoulders, or just above the base of my neck depending on how dry and springy it is. I have a brownish complection (ha! and I bet you all assumed I was white). I'll be wearing glasses, sneakers and jeans -- still not sure on a top. I'll be carrying a big denim bag. Shouldn't be that hard to pick out of a crowd.
And since I've just given out some semi-personal information, I'll also say: Please don't stalk me! Or mention to Gale that I write pr0n about him! kthxbai
So besides those small issues of contention, I think everything will work out. It annoys me that they are giving priority to people who buy the DVD at their store, considering that I already bought it online, and I couldn't even really afford it then. I fucking hate being poor. Hopefully they'll have pity on me when I show up obscenely early in the morning and stand around for hours on end with nothing to entertain me but top ramen, a fantasy novel, and the brand new hole in my favorite pair of jeans.
What else?
taraljc recently mentioned that the song she associated with the Keller/Beecher relationship (OZ fandom) was "Pretty When You Cry" by VAST. Okay, I had never heard this song until I downloaded it today. I don't know how I could have not known about this song for so long.
Like, seriously? I want to have it's babies. Or better yet, make a vid out of it. I was listening to it on loop for, like, an hour earlier today. The beat and the tone of it are just pure sex. The singing voice is so calm and smooth and matter of fact. Perfectly, deviously fitting of the lyrics. Just, God, just *read* the lyrics. They're so...so...so sicktwistedwronglovely.
"Pretty When You Cry" by VAST
you're made of my rib or baby
you're made of my sin
and i can't tell where
your lust ends
and where your love begins
i didn't want to hurt you baby
i didn't want to hurt you
i didn't want to hurt you
but you're pretty when you cry
and the moon gives me
permission and i enter
through her eyes
she's losing her virginity and
all her will to compromise
i didn't want to hurt you baby
i didn't want to hurt you
i didn't want to hurt you
but you're pretty when you cry
i didn't want to fuck you baby
i didn't want to fuck you
i didn't want to fuck you
but you're pretty
when you're mine
i didn't really love you baby
i didn't really love you
i didn't really love you
but I'm pretty when i lie
you hurt me baby
i hurt you baby
if you knew how much i love you
you would run away
but when i treat you bad
it always makes you want to stay
i didn't want to hurt you baby
i didn't want to hurt you baby
i didn't want to hurt you baby
i didn't want to hurt you baby
It is just -- wow. Wow. I can't get over it. I must make a vid with this song. I *must.* Now I just need to figure out a pairing to do it with.
Perhaps I could make a Keller/Beecher vid. From what little I do know of the OZ fandom, it would be a perfect vid for the pairing. However, first I'd have to, oh, download and watch all the OZ episodes. I think they're up to the fourth or fifth season or something. Bugger. Probably won't be able to make it until Spring Break, then.
I mean, what shows could I do this for? We could look at the shows I actually have enough episodes for to make a vid. Jake 2.0 -- nothing in it even remotely applies to the song. X-Men -- it's a fucking cartoon series. No way I could pull that off. The song is just too dark. That, and I haven't even seen the entire series. I just have it on CD, waiting for me to watch. One Piece -- same argument as with X-Men. Too much the happy cartoon. Too bad I didn't download a darker anime series like Noir. I'm sure this could work for a Noir vid. But I don't have the episodes for it.
Okay, forget tv shows. Movies that I have downloaded. Ginger Snaps? Nobody's seen it. Interview with the Vampire? Now that actually might work. So would Lost Boys, come to think of it. After reading Void, I almost want to do this vid for The Faculty. However, I don't have a video file of this movie. And understanding the vid would require that everyone read Void. Frankly, I think everyone *should* read Void, but I'm not going to make a vid that *requires* people to read a piece of fanfiction for a fandom they probably know little to nothing about.
QaF -- the closest we get is Justin/Ethan, and Ethan's just not evil enough. I mean, he was an annoying little cunt, but this song would give him way too much credit. He was too petty to be evil enough for this song. Buffy/Spike I'd consider because it really does apply and I am well acquainted with the pairing. However, I don't have the episodes, and I think I'd need all of seasons five through seven before I could make a proper vid.
Smallville. Lionel/Lex -- this song is just depraved enough for this pairing. However, I worry at the emotional trauma I'd cause myself by making a vid for a pairing I abhor to the point that I can't even stand to read it. Even without the incest factor, Lionel is a big squick for me. Lionel is just such a creep. Which isn't to say I can't recognize the subtext for the pairing. Honestly, I can't count the number of scenes I've seen with Lex and Lionel where I thought to myself, "Bad touch! Bad touch!" There's definitely enough going on in the show to make a Lex/Lionel vid. But to I really want to?
But then, we can tell from the lyrics that the uglier the pairing, the better the song works.
If I could pull if off properly, the video could start off Lionel POV and switch around at some point to end up Lex POV. Which would work so beautifully with canon. Lionel fucks Lex over in tv show canon, and ends up being fucked over by Lex in comic book canon (I think -- or is that just a fanon future fic thing?). Either way. But damn -- that would be hard to pull off in a vid without just confusing people. Hmmm...I have a few ideas.
Okay, so I guess I'll be making a Lex/Lionel vid for this song. And since I'll have to download an obscene amount of episodes before I attempt it, I'm putting this off for a few months. But, you know. Eventually. Of course, I might download a bunch of OZ episodes and change my mind about doing Keller/Beecher. We shall see.
>D
Oh, and just so you know? Bad idea to go to nap with your media player playing VAST songs on repeat. Waking up to the song "Here" has left me ever so slightly freaked the fuck out. And I think I had disturbing dreams as well.
