Mmmmm, Masochism

Warnings for profanity. I'm in a vulgar place. Possibly the lack of sleep. Or the eighteen hours of Perspective homework.

No, that's not an exaggeration. It's not including breaks either.

So for those of you who don't know, I'm in art school majoring in 3-D Animation.

I forgot how thin on the ground women were in this major, not having had any computer courses last semester. I walked into a class of eighteen to find myself one of three girls, one of whom was not even a computer animation major. She was a third year illustrator taking it as an elective and, oh my God, the most nervous person I have ever seen. She spent the entire period with her head turned all the way around, glancing from person to person, wide eyed and squirrely. I wanted to hand her a valium or something.

The guy next to me kept trying to make small talk. Pathetic, pathetic small talk. He most likely was trying to flirt with me. If I get stuck sitting next to him again, I'm telling him, "I'm sorry. I've had a long day and I really don't feel like making conversation."

My instructor? Scary intense. He was like, "The school policy is to only excuse absenses with a doctor's note or a death in the family. BUT THAT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN IN MY CLASS, IS IT. Everyone who's going to be here every class raise your hand."

Suffice it to say, I raised my Goddamn hand.

And saved my bitching and moaning for when I got home.

[livejournal.com profile] lierdumoa: Oh God, they're all gamers.
[livejournal.com profile] fashes: Well, of course.
[livejournal.com profile] lierdumoa: I just want to work in movies or tv or advertising. So. Many. Gamers.
[livejournal.com profile] lierdumoa: I feel like I should have a name for them.
[livejournal.com profile] fashes: Other than gamers?
[livejournal.com profile] lierdumoa: Something with cursing in it. I suppose I could just call them the motherfucking gamers.
[livejournal.com profile] fashes: Just gamers is like that to me. You never had to sit through a six hour family meeting about the Game.
[livejournal.com profile] lierdumoa: Right, your brothers got addicted. And stopped sleeping.
[livejournal.com profile] fashes: We called EverQuest EverCrack. Hey, you could just call them crackheads.
[livejournal.com profile] lierdumoa: No, that's not quite right. They're not just addicted to the crack, they want to create it.
[livejournal.com profile] lierdumoa: Oh. Dude.
[livejournal.com profile] lierdumoa: They're EverCrackers.

In related news, I made up my schedule in google. Then I decided it needed color coding, so I futzed with it in photoshop.

Innit pretty?

And by pretty, I mean hideous.

LM = last minute
HW = homework
CAPS = colloquialism for Computer Animation Production (Seminar? Session? Shithole?)

commute A: 15 min. walk to BART, 30 min. BART ride, 26 min. walk to class
commute B: 15 min. walk to BART, 32 min. BART ride, 12 min. walk to class
commute C: 15 min. walk to BART, 30 min. BART ride, 3 min. walk to class

No, I'm not eating lunch only three times a week. That's just for when I have a really long day and I treat myself to good takeout instead of packing lame microwavable crap or wolfing a $1.50 scone.

I know how you feel. I was the only female in almost every single one of my classes.

What was your major?

hahaha. shopping, dates, manicures and pedicures. That is so....... gender stereotypical (the list, not the idea of me time which I heartily support and suggest as well). No no .... time fiddling with google calendars, TV watching, installing nifty computer apps, reading, staring at ceiling thinking about next fun project, chatting with friends about crazy schedule/TV shows/insane life and (then maybe) shopping, dates, manicures and pedicures, and baking cookies.

I try to avoid giving unsolicited advice - unless of course, I want to be annoying. In which case bring on the unsolicited advice (and I like to toss in the comfy chair while I am at it. Because no one expects-).

"Management would like to apologize for the previous offering of unsolicited advice regarding unsolicited advice. Those responsible have been sacked. Oh, and a fucking moose bit my sister once. Why? because she tried to give the moose some bullshit lines about PC talk masquerading as unsolicited adv-"

"We apologise again for the fault in the unsolicited advice. Those responsible for sacking the people who have just been sacked have been sacked and their LJs have been replaced with images of deranged llamas cavorting in pink tutus, llamas shopping, llamas getting manicures and pedicures and llamas baking cookies."

I...I....

::dances all around you::

I was so whacked when I wrote this. What is it about lack of sleep that makes my brain turn to Monty Python? No, don't answer that question.

I adore you. XD

I apologize. It was never my intention to offend.
I have deleted my posts and in fact, deleted the second one thirty seconds after it posted, but I guess it didn't stop the mail notification. I do realize how difficult it is for a student, and I guess it triggered my grandmotherly instincts. My grandson is also carrying a heavy load at college, and working at a job as well.

Like for shopping, dates, manicures and pedicures, you know, fun stuff.

::stares::

::starts giggling madly::

Pardon me, but your Desperate Housewife is showing.

Huh.

You know, I don't think I've ever received a comment quite this patronizing before.

I'm trying to break into an industry where the typical employee works fourteen hour days, not including commute. I should think it would only be logical that in training for such a career, my schedule would be comparable. Hell, I gave myself two days off a week, barring extenuating circumstances.

Then again, you were very busy proselytizing, so perhaps you missed that part.

I'm well aware that "me" time is important. In fact, it's so important to me that I left MIT to become an artist and turn my hobby into a career. Perhaps if you'd known that about me, you wouldn't have had the unmitigated gall to practically order me to stop worrying about my school performance, in a field where only a fraction of students get hired after graduation, and buy myself a pedicure with my nonexistent money.

Frankly, it boggles my mind that you would think even for a moment you were allowed come into my journal and speak to me as though you were gently reprimanding a particularly stupid child.

Don't let this happen again.

One in six sounds about right so far as I can remember about the animators I worked with. (I used to be a SysAdmin for a post-production special effects place).

eek.

You win for tough. That schedule would probably turn me into a wimpering puddle.
