random like a random, random thing

So recently I've been thinking about a lot of rare fandoms when it comes to vidding.
Some fandoms just don't get vidded, for whatever reason. Virtually *all* RPS fandoms
don't get vidded. Vividcon doesn't even have a category for RPS.

Granted, acquiring source is a problem. People hardly ever rip episodes of Entertainment
Tonight
or talk show interviews. But there are more options! Virtually every movie and
every show includes a blooper reel in it's DVD's. Popslash vids, in which you take a pop artist
and splice together a bunch of their music videos. Let's not forget reality TV!!! Someone needs
-- *needs* -- to make an American Idol vid about Simon to Carly Simon's "You're So
Vain."

...what? It's not that insane of an idea.

Pretend there's a segue here. So
-- apparently my "Superman" vidbunny goes under rare audio. Nobody vids rap. Perfectly
understandable. First off, fandom is mainly nerdy white women -- rap isn't exactly big. Also,
much of it has a good beat, but little substance.

What about the rap that isn't plebey? Songs that actually tell as story? That kind of stuff can
be very lyric heavy. Now take Sarah McLachlan's "Building a Mystery" -- under 300 words. Tori
Amos's "Hey Jupiter" -- also under 300 words. Placebo's "I'll Be Yours" is like the musical
equivalent of a drabble. Just three totally random examples.

Eminem's "Superman" (which I am vidding) has around 1000 words, perhaps more (it's also nearly
six minutes long). I have to match clips to all these lyrics. Someone suggested that I cut out
some of the repeated parts or maybe a verse, but when I got to the actual outlining I realized
I was going to need to use the entire song to tell a complete story.

Yeah, I know. I'm cwazy! What can I say -- I get a tiny thrill out of taking Eminem's blatantly
mysogynist music and turning it into a big gay metaphor.

Oh, yeah. And here's what I did today in my classics class:

As for the rap question? I think it's less about the music than the fact that it's FAST and has SO MANY lyrics to vid to that it intimidates people. On a side note, [livejournal.com profile] sisabet is vidding rap again, and she'd vidded Eminem's Without Me for Angel.

She's vidded rap before? Link me! I haven't seen any rap vids!

her memories, she's vidding QaF too. I think her Without Me might be up at HeadTilt.

QaF is lovely to vid. It has so much nekkidness. Of course, if you don't want to invest all your time in watching a four season series, Latter Days also has much delightful nekkidness. *pimps movie at you*

And yeah. When I said lyrics heavy I pretty much meant lots of lyrics really packed in. There's no way around them.

[livejournal.com profile] f1renze asked me when you started vidding. I couldn't remember, though.

LOL! Love the pic. Especially your comment about Daylight Savings Time. Be sure to post a link to your QAF vid when it's done! ;)

Pshh...duh! You think I'd spend hours on a vid and then not beg like a little bitch for feedback?

:D

LOL! No need to beg like a bitch, my dear. I'm sure it will rock. For me, QAF vids are like an oasis in the desert of life right now. ;)
