permetaform's new vid NOW. I saw it a while back (perk of living within walking distance of her), but couldn't tell anybody about it since I was sworn to secrecy until after VividCon was over. Also? I am omgsojellus of everyone who got to go to VividCon. Vids in every color of the rainbow. I'm dying to know what people thought of my vid. People usually give their thoughts on the premiere vids. Still, I don't know if my vid will be mentioned since they didn't have room for it in the premieres show and had to put it in with the nearly new (or sotzikeh told me). Either way, I'm excited for the reviews people give because I'll have new shiny vids to look up, download and enjoy!
As for my Butterfly Effect vid -- it's going to be the death of me. Tonight I opened up my vid project to add on clips. I decided two clips didn't work and fiddled with the color, brightness, contrast, etc. until I came very close to having a breakdown. I closed Premiere. No new clips were added. I am my own worst enemy. I knew this already.
It doesn't help that the vid still has no plot.
Oh, QaF fandom. You are so wanky. I boggle at your wank. I wonder why I put up with you -- and then I remember the porn. The porn makes it aaaaalll worth it.

Sadly our fandom is the most disorganized fandom there is. There's no central location for anything, and any new fic, vids, etc. usually gets passed along from friends list to friends list.
However, if you want me to compose a reccs list, I can put one together. Give me a day or so.

Objectively, I think the lyrics of the song do match, and I like the story you were telling with the shift of Brian not wanting to be Justin's superman to not being able to be his superman.
But emotionally, watching this vid on the screen, I (as I think I mentioned previously) was creeped out. And I think it's because I don't think of QaF as a "bitches and ho's" kind of place. Brian just isn't Eminem to me. A lot of people really seemed to like the vid when it played, but they aren't QaF fans, so I think it was different for them. But as someone very emotionally invested in the show, Justin being Eminem!Brian's "bitch" made their relationship feel cheap to me to a point where my tummy was uneasy.
Again, your editing was good. But I don't believe that the feel of the song matched QaF.

I think your reaction was the one I was worried most about. Not yours specifically, but your type of reaction. This vid wasn't meant to be taken at face value at all. It was about Brian and the front he puts up. His defense mechanisims.
I know Brian really cares about Justin. I also know that he did just about everything in his power to make Justin think he didn't care. He was rude and sarcastic. He rubbed his tricking in Justin's face. In other words -- not an asshole by nature, but because he's overcompensating.
That's why I picked this song. Because the tone of the song is sarcastic and rude and Eminem is rubbing his tricking in the worlds face -- but if you look at the lyrics it's totally obvious that Eminem is overcompensating because his ex-wife cheated on him and now he refuses to set himself up to get burned again.
There's that one part where the lyrics say "Bitch if you died wouldn't buy you life" -- which is kind of similar to what Brian says when Justin challenges Chris Hobbes on the street -- but of course we all know what Brian was *really* saying in that scene was "please don't do stupid shit cause I can't always be around to protect you."

It's ok. I do see what you mean. I guess to me, a vid isn't something you should need to read in-between the lines of. That's placing the burdon of interpretation on the viewer. Vids themselves are supposed to read between the lines, and show their findings to the viewers so that the viewers see things in exactly the light portrayed by the vid.
So I see this vid as reading in-between the lines of B/J and seeing and presenting Eminem!YouAreMyBitch,JustinYouHo!Brian.
But that's just me. IMHO, YMMV, and all. I'm really not trying to over-crit you. I'm just trying to give you my own impressions so that you will have some useful input. >:D

The only way to completely take the burden of interpretation out of the viewer's hands is to make your vid entirely literal. I personally prefer vids that are more metaphorical because I get something new out of them every time I re-watch them. I agree that metaphors shouldn't be so complex they are totally incomprehensible. I don't think my overarching metaphor was, because a lot of people did get what I was trying to say without me having to explain it.
I think the reason you were unable to get my meaning was because of your opinion of Eminem. When Brian calls a man a trick you don't take him seriously. When Eminem calls a woman a bitch you do take him seriously because in your mind Eminem is an asshole and Brian isn't. Therefore you assumed that my vid was making Brian out to be an asshole. I, on the other hand, don't think Eminem is an asshole. I think he's an angry little boy throwing a tantrum. I find it hard to take anything he says seriously because his anger and his misogyny are so...cartoonish.
I think most people who liked my vid weren't thinking of it as Eminem being compared to Brian. The lyrics themselves are somewhat similar to the way Brian talks. Interesting note -- in the censored version of the song, the word "bitch" is changed to the word "trick." Power dynamics nonwithstanding, calling a woman a bitch/ho is essentially the same as calling a man a trick.
I remember you saying you didn't think of QaF as a "bitches and ho's" kind of place. I think before Brian met Justin he did tend to think of other men (except Mikey) only as potential sexual conquests, and as time went on (and my vid progressed) his worldview shifted. I tried to show that by making my clip choices less literal and more metaphorical/ironic as the vid progressed.
But that's just me. IMHO, YMMV, and all. I'm really not trying to over-crit you. I'm just trying to give you my own impressions so that you will have some useful input.
I'm glad for your opinion. I wanted to explain what I was trying to say with the vid since you'd gotten the opposite message from the one I was trying to convey. I got a bit overdefensive, but then we all do what with our creations, I suppose.
