Gah. Another one.
Oct. 28th, 2004 04:25 amOkay, spent the night trying to avoid vidding. By talking with
permetaform. Really dumb idea, considering whenever I talk with her I get more vidbunnies.
This time, for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. For those of you unaware, BtVS was my very first fandom. I started watching the show in season 6 and saw earlier episodes later through re-runs and buying DVD's. Buffy/Spike was my first OTP. I don't ship them anymore. Some relationships are fucked up and gorgeous. This one was just plain fucked up. After I realized that, I changed my opinion.
Song: "Give Him A Little Time" by Charming Hostess
Subject: The Buffy/Spike relationship in season 6.
Did you really mean it?
I don't say what I don't mean.
When she turned her eyes away she
didn't want for him to see
her.
Now he starts a'drinkin'.
"Not again," is what she's thinkin'.
"Maybe I should leave and wait this
coming storm out at my sisters."
Give him a little time
He'll take your time
He'll take it all
He'll take your lifetime
Just needs a little work
He'll take your love
He'll take it all
Now he's your life work
Almost out the back door
"Bitch! Where do you think you're going?"
Slaps her face face so hard
she's seeing stars.
The next blow sets her reeling.
She's pinned to the floor,
legs spread, eyes closed,
thinking that tomorrow will be different.
Things are always different then.
Give him a little time
He'll take your time
He'll take it all
He'll take your lifetime
Just needs a little work
He'll take your love
He'll take it all
Now he's your life work
Blackened eye and swell lip
Bruised thighs, bruised hip.
Maybe I should leave him...
Give him a little time.
Maybe now's the time to...
Give him a little time.
Give him a little time
He'll take your time
He'll take it all
He'll take your lifetime
Just needs a little work
He'll take your love
He'll take it all
Now he's your life work
Quick recap of the show: Buffy (vampire slayer) started a very fucked up relationship with Spike (vampire). Spike had this love/obsession thing for her. The relationship mostly consisted of Buffy fucking Spike and slapping him around. It ended when Buffy dumped him, he got drunk, nearly raped her (she was strong enough to defend herself) and was so horrified by what he'd done that he went off and got himself a soul (vampires lose their soul/conscience when they become vampires).
My Challenge: Gender pronouns. This song is about a female victim and a male agressor. I want to show that Buffy and Spike were both victims and both agressors in this relationship. I don't want this vid to make me look like a Spike hater or a Spike apologist. The song clearly puts one character as the abuser, but I want to see if I could use it to show a relationship where the abuse went in pretty much every direction. Buffy abused Spike. In the end, Spike lashed out and abused Buffy. The fact that the relationship existed at all was evidence of self-abuse on both their parts.
Grrrr. Do not have time to vid this. I need to stop getting vidbunnies. Like, really.
