So I was going to post this today. I wrote it last night, but as I'd already made a ridiculous number of posts yesterday I decided to wait.

Figured out what's wrong with my Firefly vid. The music -- sounds folksy and country-ish, fits the show perfectly! The story -- matches Simon perfectly, and Simon is a character on the show! Except that Simon is the least folksy or country-ish character on the show. Simon's an upperclass, edge of his field medical doctor. He's so far from rough and tumble he's vaguely effeminate. He's fucking Mozart and I'm trying to vid him to twangy guitar.

See, it's not even a color issue. Color is just a side effect of the real issue, which is that the subject doesn't fit the song mood. Color alteration might make the disparity less obvious, but it won't make the disparity go away.

I was playing what I had so far on repeat and realized about the fifth repetition through that my face was cringing so hard it had started to hurt.

Oh my god.

What the fuck.

It's one thing when a vid doesn't work out as it did in my head. It's quite another when the vid doesn't even work in my head.



Thank god this song is only 2:16 in length, or even I wouldn't have enough masochism in my poor vidding soul to finish it. I will finish it. I will post it. I will chalk it up as a learning experience and pretend the whole thing never happened. And then I will glory in the beauty that is my Almost Famous vid, for a better match of color and mood between subject and music was never found.

God fucking damn you Simon Tam.

Only, of course, once my head hit the pillow last night I figured out how to fix the problem. This is going to take more work than I anticipated.

Damn. That's a good point. I'm glad you're finishing it anyway; we need some more Simon Tam in the world. Is your solution a technical solution or a narrative solution?
