Oh, right. Death Note.
Apr. 11th, 2005 12:09 amNow the problem with speaking to
boniblithe is that she makes every idea sound like an interesting challenge. Or maybe she makes it sound like torture and I just automatically hear it as an interesting challenge. Telling me something is impossible or extremely difficult just makes me want to do it all the more. The only reason I ever start, let alone finish anything is because of the voice in the back of my brain whispering, "But it will look socoolomg."
My point, you ask?
I'm going to make a Death Note music video (NOTE: THIS IS NOT FOR VIVIDCON).
"But wait," you say. "Death Note is a manga, not an anime. How are you going to make a music video out of it?"
Oh, crap, you're right! How am I going to make a music video if there's no anime? I guess I'll just have to animate it myself.
See, I was talking to
boniblithe on instant messenger last Tues. and she told me how she'd finally given up on making a Death Note vid. I had just finished learning the basics of animation in Flash MX. It sounded like a good project for me to develop my animation skills. I told her I'd make her a Death Note music video. I then asked her to send me the scanlations and, you know, tell me what the hell this manga was about.
She stared at me (read: her instant messenger window) in shock for a few minutes, having assumed that I was already familiar with the manga given how readily I agreed to make her a music video for it. From scratch. Yeah, I don't know what the hell I was thinking either.
I picked my song after I'd read through chapter 2 -- "Dead Already" from the American Beauty soundtrack.
boniblithe asked me how I could have picked a song after only reading that far. I told her that I usually pick a song by lyrics and mood, and this song has no lyrics, and mood is determined by the source. Since I am making the source, the mood is therefore determined by me.
Right around here is when I realized I was COMPLETELY DRUNK ON POWER. I'd obviously been hanging around
boniblithe too long. Her megalomania is catching.
In any case, I spent the past week reading, and finially finished with volume 7 yesterday. After going through all that, the song still seems to fit, so I'm going ahead with it.
Now, then.
Production schedule.
I will be done with all my
vividcon projects by mid July. As soon as those are done, I'll get started on my One Piece vid, which shouldn't take more than two months to finish. I will start on the Death Note project either when the One Piece vid is done or on Sept. 15, whichever is sooner. I hope to have the Death Note video finished by this Christmas. Parts of the Death Note video will be done before Sept. 15 though, like the outline, the settings (which I plan to draw by hand) and a few simple animations that I can build on later.
This idea might just kill me. But it will look socoolomg.
And it will be mine. All mine.
