Me, me, me!
Aug. 16th, 2003 10:23 amI moved yesterday. I am now living on the tenth floor of my college's newest dormitory. It looks bizarre from the outside -- all concrete and glass. There are 2x2 foot windows a foot apart covering the entire building. My dorm room actually has a wall of windows -- 18 in all. I love it. The view is fantastic. I can see really far. The lock on my door is annoying. It's a bit messed up. It looks like someone tried to break into the room one two many times. It's really hard to fit the key in. My roomate hasn't arrived yet. I'm still not absolutely certain I'll have a roommate, but I probably will. I'm still not sure the room I'm in will be my room for the entire year, but I hope so!
It's a big improvement from my last dorm room, in which my view was of a wall with a picture of a scary looking man glued on it so that the only way not to see the picture was to cover it up. Inbetween the wall and my window was a sort of patio area with a chair. It rained a lot. The chair was rotting. The wall blocked any wind that might have entered my room, so my roomate and I were always extremely hot because of the miserably humid summer weather. The walls in our room were what I liked to call the blue equivalent of puke green.
Of course, that was only our first impression. We fixed it up -- made it home, so to speak. We put up posters. I bought a poster with a life-sized image of Orlando Bloom as Legolas. I also had a Fight Club poster and my roomate had two Matrix posters and a Moulin Rouge poster. We rearranged the beds so there was space for a sort of lounge area. It actually looked pleasant by the time we were done.
It was really weird looking at it yesterday after I packed up all my stuff to move to a different building. The room started out as crap, my roomate and I sort of made it home, and then it was back to being crap again after we left.
In other news, I ordered two articles of clothing from tshirthell.com this morning. I got a jersey that says "talk nerdy to me" (white w/ black sleeves) and a spaghetti strap tank that says "I'm what Willis was talkin' bout" (black). Squee!
As soon as I make sure I have enough money in my account, I'm going to order a Trogdor shirt from homestarrunner.com. I'll get the one "with majesty." If you have no idea what I'm talking about, go to homestarrunner.com, click on "SB emails", and then find "dragon" on the scrolling list.
Oh -- get this: I went to my college's store the other day to buy some clothing merchandise, and I found out they sell thongs! I was like holy shit! If you knew what college I go to, you'd know why I was so amazed to discover this fact. No, my college is not a "party college." Not even close. That's why I was so surprised.
daylight_shadow and
evenstarjuliet can understand.
The program I've been in ends on Monday. Then I have 4 days of vacation! Yaaay! I've promised myself I'll finish Ch. 14 to Fighting Silence and Chapter 3 to Bitter Water during these four days. Just so you know, this is the equivalent to writing approx. 14 pages (12 pt. font, double spaced) or 4500 words. It might be more or less depending on how long the chapters end up being.
