Okay, the crazy doesn't bother me overmuch, because I see a lot of crazy. Hell, I'm sure plenty of folks think I'm nuts. As long as it doesn't hurt me, it has limitless entertainment value. But I find it very difficult to summon up any respect (and feel free to defriend me for this) for anyone who would swear off fic writing after recieving a single flame. That is the single most childish and attention whoring thing one could possibly do. I'm a really big attention whore, so trust me when I say that someone's gone too far.
Dude. It's *fan fiction.* An anonymous flame is a fucking status symbol. Unless, by chance, it's the only sort of feedback you've ever recieved. It's certainly no call to swear off writing, especially when you can be 99.9% sure that half your friends list is going to offer condolences until you start writing again.
Why am I writing this post? You see, at one point I was friended with the subject of the wank myself. I friend everyone who friends me because I love getting to know new people, and because if a sociopath is reading my journal I want to be able to keep tabs on him/her. She defriended me, for no reason I could fathom. I didn't really care, since I didn't (and still don't!) really know her. I don't think she's a bad person. I do think she's a little crazy, but like I said, the crazy doesn't bother me. I think she handled her first flame extremely badly.
ETA: On the other hand, I think now that she's on F_W she'll be paying for her error in judgement more than is reasonable, and more than she ever thought possible. She'll be eaten alive.
Now the two of us have some friends in common. Let me just say that I still love you guys. If you encouraged her at any point, well, that's really none of my business. More power to you. If you think I'm being mean and unfair and decide to defriend me, well, I'll be hurt. But I'll get over it. I just want you all to know where I stand on the issue.
You know, for a relatively tiny fandom, we sure do wank a lot. I mean, there was the whole Simon thing, and then some writer called all Gale/Randy shippers an ass-crack for brains gang (my personal favorite). Our main fic community is locked, supposedly to protect us from Teh Evol Flamers. You'd think our wrists would get sore.
