Heh -- one story I forgot to mention in my Thanksgiving weekend post. Wednesday night the fire alarm went off. You see, the fire alarms in my dorm are sensitive, which is just another way of saying they like to go off for no reason. Of course, their being no actual fire, I was not willing to run down ten flights of stairs and out into the freezing cold for no good reason. Upon hearing the alarm, a guy in my room yelled out "Fuck! Nooooo!" I replied -- "Exactly -- fuck no!" The alarm went quiet shortly thereafter. It was kind of like it had never gone off at all. And so, the drama ended.

Today I went shopping with my sister. I got some Timberland boots (very cute) and warm socks, then went to Old Navy to get panties, pink gloves, and a candystriped scarf. Yay! Clothes! Shoes! I got a happy this morning when I saw someone get complimented on a Bright icon that I'd given to them. I traumatized two of my roomate's friends by showing them the music video to "Danger! High Voltage" by Electric Six.

I bought a lovely Johnny Depp poster for $6.00. It's a blackandwhite of this photo -- yum! I'll probably put it up tomorrow morning, after I clean (stop laughing,

evenstarjuliet).

Good news! I found the missing scenes for Bitter Water! It turns out I had saved them on my school account, just as I'd suspected. I'd wanted to get the chapter done before tomorrow, but the best I can hope for now is finishing it before sunup. Probably not going to happen. Oh, well.

And speaking of HP,

queenofalostart asked for fic recs. I figured I might as well just post them here. I tried to put in a wide variety of fic. There's gen and het and slash and fluff and darkfic and p0rn (and a few novels too).

Short Fic

Summary: Don't let the pairings scare you. Notice the rating - this is not some kinky smut fic. In this fic, Severus was put on trial andhe spent some time in Azkaban with Sirius before Dumbledore removed him and hired him as a teacher. It's written in a unique style, and shows Snape in a very different light from most of the Snape fics out there. It made me look at dementors in a different way.

Title: Flame and Shadow

Pairing: Ron/Pansy
Summary: Of course, this fic is written by Maya, so it must be good. Did it ever occur to anyone that perhaps Hermione isn't the right one for Ron. I really love this fic. Pansy's likeable, but believable. It's funny and leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling, yet it's not shmoopy at all. Just a good love story.

fabularasa. She's quite possibly the perfect author. Her stories have realistic characterization, brilliant dialogue, great plot twists, and hot sex scenes. The sheer amount of fic she writes is mind boggling. Most of her work is novel length -- and there's a lot of it. Of course, what really makes her the perfect author is that she doesn't post WIP's. Ever. All of her stories are complete. And, of course, she only writes SS/SB, which is my OTP to end all OTP's. All of her work can be found at Thin Line (the SS/SB archive). Of her stories, my personal favorites are Cordelictus and Rat's Alley. Oh, and while you're at Thin Line, check out Isis' stuff as well.

PORN

Some of the stories mentioned above are NC-17. You might be wondering why they were not included in this section. You might even assume that this section includes only PWP's. If you were to make such an assumption, you'd be only half right.

Now the way I see it, NC-17 fiction comes in three varieties.

1) in which sex scenes are thrown in for the fun of it. They have no particular purpose. They function as interludes.

2) in which sex scenes are used as a plot device -- a means to an end. They are essential to either the plot or the characterization in a fic.

3) in which sex scenes are the principal element. They are not a means to an end -- they are the end. Now ask yourself -- is the sex leading you to more plot...or is the plot leading you to more sex?

Because there are those who take their porn seriously. And they write some serious porn.

dahlia_777 wrote some of the first quality HP p0rn I ever read. She's been writing a very long, sex-filled three book series for a couple of years now, I think. She's finished the first two books and started on the third. I can't imagine the sort of creativity it takes to write that many lemons and make each original and interesting and hot, hot, hot! Seeker (known as Brenda Antrim in the Smallville fandom) is famous for her work in the Severus Snape Fuh-Q-Fest. Her stories range from silly to kinky to just plain hot. And she's all about the sex. Stories by her that you should definitely check out:
Inner Veela (Lucius/Remus) Lucius goes into Veela heat and Remus becomes his target.
A Perfect Plan (Harry/Severus) Okay, so usually I'm not too partial to fic involving school-age Harry and Severus. If there were any story I'd make an exception for, it'd be this one.

I suppose I should note that Seeker doesn't only write p0rn. She's been known to write angst of the "fucks you up" variety. She's a great writer all around, but when it comes to sex, she's the best.
