Lyrics

And when you give me your clothes
And when we’re lovers at last
Fresh air, perfume in your nose
There will be teeth in the grass x 5

And when you give me your house
When we’re all brothers at last
There will be food in our mouths
There will be teeth in the grass x 5

And when there’s nothing to want
When we’re all brilliant and fast
When all tomorrow's are gone
There will be teeth in the grass x 5

SO AWESOME. It's so great how you tightened everything up - more Simon, less distracting others :)

I can't express my love for your colors enough, either.

Ohhh! Wonderful. I loves me some Simon, and I loves me some Iron & Wine. Lovely combination of the two here.

Outstanding work. This is just gorgeous. Great song choice -- perfect for both fandom and character, capturing the "old west feel" but also the tiny blessings mixed with foreboding, the lurking doom just around the corner, and Simon struggling to find a place for himself within it all.

I love the scratchiness and the sepia filters, which support the rustic sound of the song and somehow personalize the images, make them more intense.

Your ending, the dip to white, it extraordinary. The story doesn't end. It goes on into a bright future we can't see. Yes.

You worked really well with the limited source available. Firefly vids always make me wish there was more of the show, more examples of things, so that we didn't always have to use similar clips. But you have taken care to use different shots. I will admit I struggled a bit with some of your superimpositions, where you dissolved from one close-up of Simon to another, similar one. But I can appreciate that you needed to keep the vid moving and that there just wasn't a lot of material to work with. I'm wondering, though, if hard cuts might not have worked better -- to create a more disturbing feel, for example, like jump cuts. Nevertheless, as a whole I think the vid is extremely successful.

Technical note from a Mac user: I downloaded the DivX version, since I have the most recent codec installed. Quicktime preserved your aspect ratio, but playback was jerky, so I viewed in VLC and then in MPLayer. Both had excellent quality playback, but they didn't preserve the aspect ratio, so everyone was tall and skinny. ): The WMV looked perfect, though.

Aww, my poor dead show. Thank you so much, I loved the old movie jumpy quality you did.

Huh... I wonder why VLC and mplayer would change the aspect ratio...

maybe they actually look for the aspect ratio flags in the avi (which no other programs do, afaik)

AHA! I was right, pixel aspect ratio flag was incorrect. 99% of programs never look at this flag :P

@lierdumoa: go get this program...

http://www.moitah.net/download/latest/MPEG4Modifier.zip

load your TTIG avi file into it and select the "Square Pixels" button and save the file as something else. This will make a new copy that will display correctly in VLC and mplayer.

Came here via Laura's rec.

That was fabulous. Smart and short and thinky and I loved the editing and the color wash. Wow.

Beautifully done and edited. I love the contrasts and similarities of the flashbacks to the real time, and the glares of light -- I especially loved that, visually. Simon's hard to vid, and I absolutely am in love with the way you've portrayed him here, and his relationships to River and the crew.

=D Yay!

I'm finally happy with the colors myself, after an insane amount of tweaking. And thanks so much for your advice on removing all the props distracting others.

Oh, poor w00bie Simon. I love him so. He was fighting the music for a while, being all high class doctor, but I filtered him brown and he was far more accommmodating.

Your ending, the dip to white, it extraordinary. The story doesn't end. It goes on into a bright future we can't see. Yes.

Yes! And yay!

I'm wondering, though, if hard cuts might not have worked better -- to create a more disturbing feel, for example, like jump cuts.

Oh! ::lightbulb:: One of my biggest problems with this vid was that I kept doing things to match the music, without bothering to make them fit thematically as well. Something to ponder for my next vid.

Will try to fix the aspect ratio problem. Thanks for the heads up!

I'm glad the vid worked for you. I'm really glad it made sense, because at one point I think I completely lost track of what message I was trying to convey. The pretty is so distracting.

Thankyou so much for this comment!

Yes, Simon is the prettiest. I think I may have trashed this thing if not for that cupid's bow mouth.

I got recc'd? Cool. =D

Smart and short and thinky

I originally saw that the song was two minutes and thought, "Sweet! I can finish this in a weekend!" And then finished it five weeks later.

It was all that thinking I wasn't expecting to have to do. I'm so glad it worked for you!

Yes, I myself am caught between nostalgia and impotent rage that the show was cancelled.

I'm glad you enjoyed this!

That was just gorgeous. I loved the effects, the fact that you used Iron & Wine and the shifts in context/time. Really great. Really beautiful. Loved the ending.

Can you just piece together the old episodes and make a whole new season? Please?

(Linked over from SDWolfpup, I think.)

I love this vid. I really love what you did with the colors and the image quality. You made it very Firefly-like. Very worn in.
