Lyrics
And when you give me your clothes
And when we’re lovers at last
Fresh air, perfume in your nose
There will be teeth in the grass x 5
And when you give me your house
When we’re all brothers at last
There will be food in our mouths
There will be teeth in the grass x 5
And when there’s nothing to want
When we’re all brilliant and fast
When all tomorrow's are gone
There will be teeth in the grass x 5

Date: 2005-03-05 04:44 pm (UTC)I love the scratchiness and the sepia filters, which support the rustic sound of the song and somehow personalize the images, make them more intense.
Your ending, the dip to white, it extraordinary. The story doesn't end. It goes on into a bright future we can't see. Yes.
You worked really well with the limited source available. Firefly vids always make me wish there was more of the show, more examples of things, so that we didn't always have to use similar clips. But you have taken care to use different shots. I will admit I struggled a bit with some of your superimpositions, where you dissolved from one close-up of Simon to another, similar one. But I can appreciate that you needed to keep the vid moving and that there just wasn't a lot of material to work with. I'm wondering, though, if hard cuts might not have worked better -- to create a more disturbing feel, for example, like jump cuts. Nevertheless, as a whole I think the vid is extremely successful.
Technical note from a Mac user: I downloaded the DivX version, since I have the most recent codec installed. Quicktime preserved your aspect ratio, but playback was jerky, so I viewed in VLC and then in MPLayer. Both had excellent quality playback, but they didn't preserve the aspect ratio, so everyone was tall and skinny. ): The WMV looked perfect, though.

Date: 2005-03-05 04:49 pm (UTC)maybe they actually look for the aspect ratio flags in the avi (which no other programs do, afaik)

http://www.moitah.net/download/latest/MPEG4Modifier.zip
load your TTIG avi file into it and select the "Square Pixels" button and save the file as something else. This will make a new copy that will display correctly in VLC and mplayer.

Date: 2005-03-05 07:53 pm (UTC)Oh, poor w00bie Simon. I love him so. He was fighting the music for a while, being all high class doctor, but I filtered him brown and he was far more accommmodating.

Yes! And yay!

Oh! ::lightbulb:: One of my biggest problems with this vid was that I kept doing things to match the music, without bothering to make them fit thematically as well. Something to ponder for my next vid.
Will try to fix the aspect ratio problem. Thanks for the heads up!

I originally saw that the song was two minutes and thought, "Sweet! I can finish this in a weekend!" And then finished it five weeks later.
It was all that thinking I wasn't expecting to have to do. I'm so glad it worked for you!
