Cambridge DVD Signings

Got two hours of sleep last night. Am crashing hard right now. But I'll try to get this all out before I pass out.
Went out to dinner last night with college friends. Borrowed camera from
evenstarjuliet. Went back to my dorm. Chatted a tiny bit w/
algophobia on MSN messenger. Put laundry to wash. Set my alarm. Woke up. Put laundry in the dryer. Set my alarm again. Slept through it. Woke up about half an hour late. Rushed to pack my shit and get out of my dorm. Got out of my dorm and across the street. Realized I forgot the camera in my dorm room. Went back to my room. Got my camera, and my water bottle out of the fridge. And I was off!
Walked to Strawberries. Got there at 6:10 in the morning. Realized that the manager was a dirty, dirty liar, because no one was lining up that early. In fact, I was the very first person there. The second earliest person came half an hour later. Walked around in the bitter cold. Tried to read, but then my hands started feeling like they were going to fall off, so I put them back in my pockets and concentrated on pacing. Went to a gas station bathroom. It was gross. Walked around more. Bought some pringles from said gas station. Walked around some more. More people arrived. Saw people gathering on the front steps of Strawberries. Went to join them
Met three people with livejournals, two of whom were lesbians. Apparently even lesbians would make an exception for Gale Harold -- or so both of them insisted. Talked about fanfiction. Found out that I'd actually read some of the same stories as one of the girls. Laughed over a particularly good humor fic. Waited.
Waited.
Waited.
Found out that Strawberries was totally ghetto. Made us wait outside in the cold. Put on no music to entertain us. Told everyone that they had to buy the DVD's from their store or they probably wouldn't get a chance to see the actors. Now have two copies of the DVD's. Both are signed -- one set to me specifically, and the other just with their names. I'm putting the non-personalized one up on e-bay.
So the limo arrived with the actors. The manager was all like "Don't take pictures." Nobody listened to him.
evenstarjuliet's camera ran out of batteries, but thankfully
ohyeah36, one of the lj-ers I met, had extra batteries. We all lined up and walked into the store. Some Boston radio station did a big fancy intro. The actors walked in. I cheered Iike I haven't cheered since my last high school sports rally. Then the signings started.
Let me see if I can remember the whole encounter. Went something like this. Almost verbatim, I think.
Me: (to Michelle) Can I get both of these signed? (referring to my two DVD's)
Michelle: Yeah, what's your name?
Me: Erica. Mind if I take a picture?
Michelle: Sure! (very friendly like)
[Picture no. 1 is taken.]
Michelle: *signs*
DVD's are passed along to Gale. He signs the first. He gets to the second.
Gale: Ah, who's is...
Me: Oh, that's mine too.
Thea: But you don't want you're name on both...
Me: Uh, no. The other one's going up on e-bay.
Gale: *grins*
[Picture No. 2 is taken.] I pull out the "Get Folked" coupon from one of my DVD cases.
Me: Oh, and could you sign this for my friend Hannah?
See
dissident_dream -- I didn't forget that I promised I'd get something signed for you. We still have to work out how I'm going to mail this to you, by the way.
Gale: "Anna?"
Me: "Hannah. H-A-N-N-A-H"
Gale: *signs*
Me: Thank you so much!
I stand back. [Picture No. 3 is taken.]
The DVD's are passed to Thea. I start to move out of the way. [Picture No. 4 is taken.]
Thea: *signs*
I move further out of the way. [Picture No. 5 is taken.]
Manager: Okay, that's enough.
Dude -- she was still signing my shit. It wasn't like I was sticking around taking pictures after my turn was up and holding up the line. Fuckin' bitchy manager.
So I go to pick up my DVD's.
Me: Thank you so much! (to Thea, but also to the three cast members in general)
Signing over.
Thea is taller than I pictured her. Gale Harold is even better looking in person than on tv (if that's even possible). And he has fabulous hair. Everyone looked gorgeous. Everyone was very nice. I had a good time all around.
After getting everything signed, I walked over to where the Boston radio station that seemed to be sort of hosting this event led me over to a table where I wrote down some personal info for this raffle to give away extra copies of the DVD's. I then gathered up all my shit and went out of the building. They really didn't want people to stick around. I got pictures taken of me holding the DVD's. See pictures here and here.
labyrinthan_elf, one of the LJ people I met, was kind enough to drive me back to my dorm. We sang along really loudly to "You Think You're A Man" (7" Radio Edit). I got up to my room and then called
evenstarjuliet about uploading my photos. After that I IM'd
algophobia and squeed, IM'd my ex-roommate who likes QaF and squeed, and IM'd
meimur and squeed.
I then went over to
evenstarjuliet's dorm and she took all my photos off her camera. We uploaded them to my photobucket account, but they were resized (they were ginormous photos -- the maximum resolution). She's going to IM me the full files later tonight.
That's everything, I think.
