So I waited in line, got a program list at the door, then I got a seat in the front row to the right of the screen. They started off with filking (is that what it's called?). Uh, changing the lyrics in well known songs to fandom themes. Highly amusing and enjoyable. Then the vidshow started off with The Ukes Of Hazzard's "Gay Boyfriend" video (download: here).

Somewhere in there it hit me that OMG my favorite of my vids is about to show and fifty people are in here watching and wah! Nervous twitchiness! Why can I not stop clearing my throat?!?

Total irreverent hilarity. This was especially fun after having watched the movie just the night before. Great comedic timing. Perfect to start off the show, I thought.

Give a Man a Home

fandom: due South
A more classic sort of slash vid. Unconventional music choice that despite this seemed to fit well with the subject matter. Not my style, but I still had a sort of intellectual appreciation of it.

Data's Dream
vidders: Gayle F and Tashery S
fandom: many
[livejournal.com profile] morgandawn first showed this to me a few months ago. When she told me it wasn't online I almost cried. Well, now it is! I love this vid, so much. It's so beautiful movement-wise and it's just everything I love about sci-fi and fantasy. As someone said in the post vidshow review, it celebrates fanish obsession without making a joke of it. And it's so preeeeety. It looked incredible on the big screen. My favorite vid in the show.

When I Go
vidder: [livejournal.com profile] melina123
fandom: Lord of the Rings
I can't say I ever felt much for Boromir when I saw the movie, but I was completely in love with him by the end of this vid. Fantastic song choice. As someone in the vid review mentioned, it's about Boromir's redemption, and doesn't apologize for him. Really took advantage of the beauty of the source.

Hmm. It seemed to get its point across. I didn't find its point particularly interesting. Not to my tastes.

Nothing Else Matters
vidder: [livejournal.com profile] kassidy62
fandom: Starsky and Hutch
I quite liked this one. The song really seemed to fit the subject matter, and it was a good song. Wow. Slashy. I had no idea how slashy this show was.

In a Big Country

fandom: The Magnificent Seven
Hey, it's that hot guy from Once and Again! Now and Again? Now and Again! Right, cause Once and Again is about those two divorced people. Hallmark logo? Hallmark has a tv channel? But I digress. Great song choice for the fandom. Really, really pretty source. Good narrative. I really want to see this show now. And find out if anyone's done a piano cover of this song, cause that would be cool.

Do You Realize

fandom: Dead/Alive 2
I loved the fan reaction to this one. Everyone was like, "Oh, interesting intro. Ah, good narrative. I like the mixing of the childhood scenes with the parallel adult scenes and...WTF THEY SPROUTED WINGS?!?" Heeeeee.

Karaoke Soul

My love for this vid is unhealthy. It was great seeing it big. At the same time the projector making all the blacks gray took the intensity out of some parts, so overall I ended up having about the same effect on me as it did on my computer monitor. Which was, you know, insane love. Because it mooooves so preeeeetily. I love the whole end sequence. It whirls.

Loved this vid. The projector had a way of making blacks gray and whites extremely white, and for this vid, I felt like the white was just soaking into me. Just...whoa. Really intense, even though I had no idea what was going on in the source. Comments in vid review were that the song really managed to get across the wearyness of being immortal. I loved the added rain noises, which I actually didn't notice until I watched the vid on my computer. I like Cat Power! This is the first time I've seen the band vidded.

Winter

This vid didn't really work for me when I saw it on the web the first time. The song choice was great, I thought, but the literalisms bothered me in places and the rhythm felt off. I actually enjoyed it much better when I saw it on the big screen, though I can't exactly say why. I think the emotional intensity of some of the scenes transmitted better on the big screen than it did on my tiny monitor.

Anya! Anya, Anya, Anya! She was my favorite character (tied with Spike) on the show, and I've been waiting for someone to vid her. This vid just captured her perfectly. How utterly hilarious she was. Her great sense of humor and her total lack of tact. How she never really seemed to quite fit in and always got fucked over, but kept that sense of humor and kept going. How she changed her hairstyle every four seconds. God, I'm so glad [livejournal.com profile] laurashapiro made this. I miss Anya more than any other character on the show.

Live Till I Die
vidder: Mary Crawford
fandom: Hercules: The Legendary Journeys
Iolaus vid. Love the rhythm in this one. Great comedic timing. This vid would turn anyone into a Iolaus fan. Interesting song choice, and it worked great with the character. I think I recced this when it was first posted to [livejournal.com profile] vidding.

Hallo Spaceboy
vidder: [livejournal.com profile] tanacawyr
fandom: 2001: A Space Odyssey
This vid is so cool. It was cool when I first saw it on my computer. It was even cooler on the big screen. I noticed some things in the music that I hadn't noticed before. The song is so creepy cool. I actually really wanted to see the movie after I first saw this, though since then I learned that the vidder in fact hated the movie, so maybe I won't see it after all.

My Immortal
vidder: [livejournal.com profile] sian1359
fandom: Star Wars
I was sort of cringing when I found out what song was being vidded. I really thought this vid made it work, though. They didn't make it a romance (actually, I suppose you could interpret the vid as a series of romances, but for my mental health I'd prefer not to). It explored the relationship between padawan and master in the Star Wars series. The legacy of that relationship throughout the Star Wars series.

The Soldiering Life
vidder: [livejournal.com profile] przed

If Barkley's vid made me fall in love with Boromir, this vid made me fall in love with Sean Bean. I loved the song. Very quirky. The vidder really took advantage of the drum beat in a way that was odd, startling, and really quite fun. One of my favorites in the show.

An Innocent Man
vidder: [livejournal.com profile] versaphile
fandom: Angel: The Series
The vidder mentioned to me in the lyrics panel that she loved irony, and I thought it worked well in this vid, the lyrics being such a total reversal of the Wesley/Lilah relationship that it really emphasized just how screwed up said relationship was.

Weeping Willow
vidder: [livejournal.com profile] sisabet

This vid was one of the ones that made me catch my breath in the vidshow. Oh, she just got it. Perfectly. And the skipping! The skipping!

Forever Autumn
vidder: [livejournal.com profile] sian1359

The song worked for me in parts and felt really off to me in others, as parts of it sounded like the movie, and other parts sounded really 60's-ish.

I Am The Highway

Oh, I love this vid. I don't have anything coherent to say about it. Just that it's damn good and everyone should watch it. Now.

Cain
vidder: [livejournal.com profile] smutcutter
fandom: Sleepy Hollow
I loved the song, and it really bugged me that I couldn't tell what some of the lyrics were. It had this sort of overdramatic 80's feel to it that seemed to oddly fit with the pairing it was vidding. The eeevil bad guy and the prissy awkward yet brave scientist. Good timing.

So Damn Hot

So, so funny. I loved this. Themewise it was quite similar to [livejournal.com profile] astolat's Drop Dead Gorgeous. Great comedic timing. Really beautiful source kind of goes without saying.

Okay, I think when she first posted this to lj I gave her the most incoherent squee I've ever given anyone. I adore this vid. I was really annoyed with the projector at this point because the whole making blacks look gray thing seemed to take a lot of the sexiness out of it, but I still loved the humor and the timing, oh the beautiful timing. Man, now I want to go read due South fic again. I have too much crap to do tonight.

I've been waiting for someone to make a Legolas/Gimli vid, because they so need one! This was the cutest. It makes me want to ::huggle:: and ::glomp:: and other ridiculously fangirlish things with made up words.

Eventually I'll put in download links for all of these. But not now. I've been sitting too long in front of my computer writing this after spending a day sitting in front of a computer for class and my ass is killing me. Maybe tomorrow.
