Bush has declared this week Marriage Protection Week. Yes, apparently the institution of marriage needs to be protected from homosexuals. Next he'll be declaring War on Gays.

He must think that homosexuals are part of the "axis of evil."

Well, as you can imagine, this has pissed a lot of people off. It's certainly pissed a lot of lj-ers off, including me. Probably one of the largest social communities in livejournal is the slash community. Slash has this nifty way of infiltrating every media-based community in existence, so it logically follows that the number of slashers in lj would be very, very large.

And if there's one thing slashers can't stand, it's Bush (and yes, I meant to say 'thing').

In an outcry against Bush's declaration (read the declaration in it's entirety: HERE), dolimir has declared today a day of protest. damanique and _seska_ have created icons and banners and invited everyone to use them. If you want to use an icon or put a banner in your lj, go: HERE (no direct linking, please).

For the political activists out there, pun has complied a list of things that can be done outside of lj postings (i.e. petitions to sign, political activist groups in various areas, etc.). This list won't be of any use to most of the people on my friends list, considering over 50% of you guys don't live in the United States, but I figured I'd link to it anyway.



Huh -- that's the first political statement I've ever put in my livejournal. I'm normally not very politically minded.






Well, if nothing else, this protest has resulted in a great outpouring of delightfully creative icons. I think my favorite one was a very nice portrait of Bush with the words: If I believed in hell...you'd be burning there eternally you fucking homophobe. Another good one had the words "Respect all marriages" and a picture of Iñigo and Fezzik (screenshot from The Princess Bride).

Yes, I'm still posting even though I've got a long road-trip ahead of me tomorrow - I've got to get up at 5:30am on Sat - it's the end of the world or at least it'll sure feel like it.

There's one plus benefit to being in the States right now - next week there's going to be a huge (hopefully) anti-bush rally in washington d.c. and a friend and I will be marching in it.

In regards to bush's hobby of bashing homosexuals - I've designed a couple of pro-homosexual t-shirts and a friend and I will be trying to 'make' them tomorrow - if the pictures come out okay - I'd like to past the designs along so as many people as possible might either wear them as shirts or use them for icons etc. just to get the message around.

I'm majoring in Art History and Renaissance Studies and the shirts revolve around two of my favorite gay guys - Leonardo and Michelangelo -
