Okay, more Saiyuki squee.

In my last post I mentioned no one giving Sanzo powers when they write reincarnation fic. Then I was thinking. What if Sanzo is just the physical manifestation of Goku's limiter.

Interesting to think about. I mean, when Sanzo was down in the desert (Buial arc? I can't remember when this happened), we all assumed that Goku went so crazy with desperation his limiter couldn't take it. That's why it snapped off his head. That's why he reverted to Son Goku. But I'm playing with the idea (or, at least, I could argue it this way in my fic) that Sanzo is the power source behind Goku's limiter. Sanzo's strength was draining out of him, ergo the limiter ceased to function.

I was talking to permetaform a few minutes ago, and she brought up the point that we never see Sanzo eat in the manga. We see everyone but Sanzo eat. Goku eats probably double what anyone else eats. I'm really going to enjoy theorizing and exploring just how *bound* these two are -- something most people in the fandom haven't explored to a great extent I think because fic writers usually reserve the soul bonds for the characters they ship, and not too many people ship Sanzo/Goku.

Okay, back to writing.

True.. we only hear about Sanzo's weird eating habits and that he's taking away something G&G were bickering about.

"not too many people ship Sanzo/Goku." Sigh. But the idea you've got here sounds interesting; surely something I've never put much thought in (I'd read it any day though... =D )

That's an interesting idea. Sanzo does often seem to be injured in some way when Goku's limiter breaks, although once he wasn't. And he does make the limiter from the power of his sutra.

Sure:) But there are spoilers here for Goku's Burial arc in Reload. Just in case, highlight below:

It tales place shortly after Sanzo has found Goku. They're back at the temple and Sanzo is hiding him in a shed. Sanzo leaves Goku overnight at the temple but Goku think's Sanzo's abandoned him and his limiter breaks from fear. Sanzo returns in time to see Seiten Tasei wreaking havoc with the monks so he uses his sutra to replace Goku's limiter. He's just learnt from the Sanbutsushin what Goku is. The monks are terrified, but Sanzo tells them Goku is staying (in part because the 3 big giant heads told him so). I think that's the only time Sanzo has seen Goku's real form, apart from the time in the desert in vol 6.
