Huh

I was suddenly struck with the memory of accidentally cutting myself in the middle of class in 4th grade when I, not having a pencil sharpener, tried to sharpen my pencil with a pair of scissors. My teacher looked at me like I was crazy. I think my teachers did a lot of that when I was little. There was also that time in first grade when we were celebrating "Columbus Day" and I asked the teacher, "But didn't he, like, kill and enslave a buncha natives?" And that odd period in seventh grade when I made tourettes like noises -- that garnered more attention from fellow students than it did from the teacher.

I'm remembering that one Gale Harold RPS fic I wrote and thinking that it was really much more of a Mary Sue than I realized.

My flist has changed. I remember the last time I did a vid poll Mandy came in dead last. I think I'll probably be doing that one next. I also kinda want to start on the Andy vid (Shawshank Redemption). I think I can probably alternate working on the two. Of all the ideas on my list, those two were the most thematically different, and since I'm always doing something stylistically different, I'd like to be doing something thematically different for a change.

Mandy vid is, of course, a pure comedy vid, with an odd splash of earnestness because, well, it's *true.* It's not so much making fun of the relationship as the relationship makes fun of itself and I think the song captures that. Non-narrative. Very different from anything I've started lately. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to create good comedic buildup without the benefit of a plot. I've been avoiding doing this project because it's so far from my comfort zone (not that my comfort zone is all that comfortable, generally) but I guess it's high time I got over myself and started. I'm using comic book scans in the vid, so that may help with my transition into animated source.

Andy vid is an...interesting endeavor. Part serious, part parody. Narrative, but not linear. The song is calm contentment on the surface, but there's this undercurrent of impatience and readiness to move -- then the chorus has this bitter edge, all of which I think fit Andy perfectly -- anyone who's seen the movie will probably agree. On the other hand, it's Tom Petty singing about smoking pot and going on a roadtrip. Then again, I think Andy would probably be able to appreciate my sense of humor, so it's all good. I may have to rearrange a few verses. The song seems hopeful to me -- I like that about it, and hope isn't something I've tried to vid yet.

ETA: For those of you who were looking forward to it, Seth/Ryan The OC vid is going to Escapade, so I'll be finishing it at some point before Feb. Hopefully you won't be waiting that long. I'll have made it by then at the very latest.

I am looking forward to the Shawshank vid. My favorite line from that movie: "Why do they call you Red?"

Morgan Freeman: "Perhaps 'cause I'm Irish."

lifted straight from the book, but with the casting of Morgan Freeman, it added a nice zing to the character.
