I don't know what the logic is here, but it's kinda cool looking.

Oi! Too many vidbunnies! Too many vidbunnies.

So in light of my recent River/Jayne plotbunny, I began to consider possibilities for a River vid. She was my favorite character on Firefly. I was originally thinking "Spark" by Tori Amos, because it is quite possibly my favorite song ever and the lyrics are metaphorical enough to twist the way I want them to twist. Some specific lines resonate with River -- she's afraid of a light in the dark/say you don't want it, this circus we're in/still not convinced there's a woman in there somewhere

To clarify -- River = child/woman with mental problems because the gov't fucked with her head to try to make her a killing machine. Also? Psychic.

Only, listening to the song again, I realized it really resonates with Inara. Another character on Firefly -- a professional prostitute, very beautiful, impeccable manners, very classy (prostitution is a respectable job in this futuristic world), in love with the rough and tumble captain of the ship, though she'd never admit it. Some lines really resonate with her -- Say you don't want it again and again but you don't really mean it (how she's in love with the captain but won't admit it; how she's in love with the captain's lifestyle but doesn't really belong to his world)/If the divine master plan is perfection, maybe next I'll give Judas a try/Still not convinced there's a woman in there somewhere

So basically, 1 song, 2 totally different narratives. Both vids would be highly metaphorical. I mean, the beginning lyrics are "She's addicted to nicotine patches." I could apply it to Inara on a few different levels -- in a way her love for Mal (the captain) is a kind of addiction; her job is a kind of addiction, her conflicting desires are addictions each with the potential to cause her grief. River doesn't so much have addictions as she is trapped, the same way and addict is trapped. She can't control herself the way addicts can't control themselves, though for different reasons.

Just, gaaah. I really want to make this vid. I just don't know which vid to make. I don't think I can make it about both characters without it ending up looking like a River/Inara femslash vid.

On the one hand, I think this might make an interesting Inara vid, because the song mood isn't something I'd usually apply to her. I think I'd be able to use that to reveal something in her that you only really saw glimpses of in the show. It imposes a mood, rather than reflecting a mood, if that makes any sense. With River, the mood is a more obvious fit -- more of a reflection. When I have a choice between interesting and obvious I usually pick interesting, even if it might possibly make my vid harder to understand (and it has done just that, in the past).

However, I really want to make a River vid, because I love her character, and Inara's character doesn't have nearly the same appeal for me. As a fan, I'd rather make a River vid. I love River. I don't love Inara. As a vidder, an Inara vid would be pushing the boundaries more.

I'll probably make the Inara vid. No guarantees either way. I might end up just never making either vid at all. Well, anyway -- there's a glimpse of my thought process.
