BtVS Thoughts

Lately I've been in a nostalgic mood, reading a ton of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Buffy/Spike fanfic, my very first fandom ship.
And I will say, the thing I loved most about BtVS fandom?
We were all in it for the monsterfucking.
Buffy was attracted to a demon. None of the fanfic writers tried to argue that Buffy would be happier if that demon were transmogrified into an ordinary human with no unnatural powers and perverse urges.
In fact all the fanfic was about showing how much happier, more true to herself, and more fulfilled she was with a creature of the night than some whitebread bootlicker.
If there's one fanfic trope I can't stand, it's "the eldritch monster receives the ultimate reward of becoming a mediocre white man and living an pleasant suburban picket fence life."
