Horrible day today
Jan. 27th, 2006 06:38 pmI was running to the subway so I wouldn't be late and twisted my ankle. I was on time, but my ankle is still hurting ten hours later. Boring thing with department directors talking about the department, which wasn't bad really except for the bright, bright lights pointed straight at my face.
But I was in a good mood, see, because the guy who handles workstudy in my major called and asked me for my class schedule so he could give me jobs. He gave me more hours than he gave anyone else. 18/week at $8.00/hr wherein I would be a TA and run errands for teachers in classes that I would be taking later on, and therefore would do really well in later on because I would have already sat through them for a semester running errands for the professors. Also, free transportation.
So he hands me my schedule, sends me down to financial aid so I can get the contract form so he can sign it.
I go down to the financial aid lady. "Oh, there's been a mistake. Your parents make too much money, you do not qualify for the workstudy program. You qualified for other financial aid and so I assumed and forgot to double check."
My dad retired at the end of this last year. He was a doctor. Since he only just retired, that's still all of last year's pay accounted for in my FAFSA. I knew there was a chance I wouldn't qualify for workstudy, which is why when I first went down to see about workstudy, I asked her twice if I qualified. I said, "So I definitely qualify, then," and she said, "Yes." I don't know why the hell she couldn't just say, "Maybe." The word is not that complicated.
She gave me info for, like, 3 job opportunities in workstudy not including this last one and commuting to work when I already commute to school would be hugely inconvenient, so I didn't bother hunting for jobs outside of that. That was, like, three weeks ago. I could have been looking into other options for three weeks.
I was LITERALLY HOLDING MY WORK SCHEDULE IN MY HAND.
INCOMPETENT FUCKING BITCH.
