Title: Girl Anachronism
Artist: The Dresden Dolls
Fandom: Gia
Summary: Bitch. Tease. Goddess on her knees.
A/N: I want to thank my pinch hitting last minute beta [livejournal.com profile] permetaform, who literally came to my room, sat next to me, kept me focused (drill sergeant style), cooked me food and reassured me I wasn't making crap for twelve straight hours while I finished the last 59 seconds of this vid. She rocks like a thing that rocks really hard. I also want to thank my roommate [livejournal.com profile] goluxexmachina for being a giant ego boost and listening to my ramble. This vid premiered at VividCon 2005.

Lyrics

One (one)
Two (two)
One two THREE FOUR

You can tell
From the scars on my arms
And cracks in my hips
And the dents in my car
And the blisters on my lips
That I'm not the carefullest of girls

You can tell
By the glass on the floor
And the strings that're breaking
And I keep on breaking more
And it looks like I am shaking
But it's just the temperature
But then again
If it were any colder I could disengage
If I were any older I could act my age
But I dont think that you'd believe me
It's
Not
The
Way
I'm
Meant
To
Be
It's just the way the operation made me

And you can tell
From the state of my room
That they let me out too soon
And the pills that I ate
Came a couple years too late
And I've got some issues to work through
There I go again
Pretending to be you
Make-believing
That I have a soul beneath the surface
Trying to convince you
It was accidentally on purpose

I am not so serious
This passion is a plagiarism
I might join your century
But only on a rare occasion
I was taken out
Before the labor pains set in and now
Behold the world's worst accident
I am the girl anachronism

And you can tell
From the red in my eyes
And the bruises on my thighs
And the knots in my hair
And the bathtub full of flies
That I'm not alright at all
There I go again
Pretending that I'll fall
Don't call the doctors
Cause they've seen it all before
They'll say just
Let
Her
Crash
And
Burn
She'll learn
The attention just encourages her

And you can tell
From the full-body cast
That I'm sorry that I asked
Though you did everything you could
(like any decent person would)
But I might be catching so don't touch
You'll start believeing you're immune to gravity and stuff
Don't get me wet
Because the bandages will all come off

Then you can tell
From the blood on your legs
That the current state is critical
Well it is the little things, for instance:
In the time it takes to break it she can make up ten excuses:
Please excuse her for the day, its just the way the medication makes her

I don't necessarily believe there is a cure for this
So I might join your century but only as a doubtful guest
I was too precarious removed as a caesarian
Behold the world's worst accident
I am the girl anachronism
(girl anachronism)
I am the girl anachronism
(I am the girl anachronism)
I am the girl
(I am the girl)
I am the girl
(I am the girl)
I am the girl
(I am the girl)
I am the girl anachronism

Holy shit.

That was *amazing.* I'm sorry, I wish I could give more coherent feedback, but man. I have no familiarity with the source material whatsoever, and that *still* knocked me on my ass. The cutting techniques were so freaking cool, especially in the intro, and it just got better, and *flail*

Don't know the source material at all and the song is probably not one I'd listen to on my own but this vid just drew me in. Amazing editing and clip choices and very accessible even with no knowledge of Gia at all.

Oh wow wow wow wow wow.

Um, that's as coherent a response as I can manage right now.

I've never seen Gia but I decided to watch it anyway and I'm so glad I did. It's brilliant. I was blown away watching it.

I caught some 20 minutes of the film one day but this vid has convinced me I should sit down and watch the whole thing.

The song was wonderfully apt for the film and I loved what you did with it. So far this is my favorite vid to be released from the con and if it weren't for some of the more difficult emotional scenes in the vid, I could watch it again and again.

Thanks so much for sharing!

Very nice! I like how you caught both the glamour of Gia's life and the tragedy when it falls apart (although I found your vid considerably less depressing than I find the movie). The frenetic pace of the editing matched the whirlwind of success she experiences, in all its decadence, very nicely.

Thank you for sharing this! :)

I suck at giving vid feedback...I never know what to say or how to say it, but I'll give it a go nevertheless.

This was my favorite Premiere at VVC...I've never seen the movie, Gia, but by the closing sequence of this vid I felt like I knew the character all the same. The vid vibrated with energy and color and was just so fucking alive and bold and in your face that it bowled me over. The use of magenta/fuscia/whatever you want to call it was perfectly glam, and the use of black/white was similarly effective in accenting diff sequences and bringing a certain sense of seriousness to the reality of what we're seeing beyond the dazzle.

I have nothing left to say except that I just absolutely *loved* this. I am so in awe; it's not even funny. :D

I've only caught parts on this movie on tv, but the video really gave me a complete sense of the character. This really is an amazing and beautiful vid.

Holy fuck. I just watched this because the link to [livejournal.com profile] yhlee's commentary on [livejournal.com profile] vidding reminded me. It was amazing, but *squicksquicksquick* I wish you'd put a warning or something for some of that content. It was still amazing, but I'm kind of shaking now.

I am so very, very behind the times in just now watching this vid -- but I'm so glad I did because it's fabulous. The jump cuts are what immediately caught my attention...they are so frenetic, and perfect for both the song and the source...her frenzied, out-of-control life. This vid is kind of kaleidoscopic because it's constantly in motion and shifting and showing so many aspects of her character. And it does that excellently. Thank you for sharing this!

Wow. You did amazing justice to this movie. Everything from Gia's manic energy to her pain to her tragedy. Not only did you completely nail all of her moods, but you painted this frantic, beautiful, frightening portrait with your editing skills. I'm in awe.

I've been a fan of this movie since it premiered on HBO way back when, have always loved it and you made me look at it in a new way.

Well done!
