Here's my reaction to Wednesday's Jake 2.0. I'm trying to cut back on my use of the word "dude." I've been using it far too much lately (and it's all your fault, Queen).

Okay, so Jake gave his chance at quitting away to the Malik. Who *didn't* see that coming? Anyway, lovely episode. They managed to not turn the African king into too much of a caricature, which I liked. The prince, Malik, was kinda hot, and I'm trying to remember if I've seen him anywhere before. Perhaps, perhaps not.

Anyway -- on with the plot. Bitch lady from the last ep. showed up again (hear [livejournal.com profile] taraljc screaming "ARC-ELEMENTS!!!" in the background) and said hi to Jake in the hallway , all friendly-like, freaking poor Jake the fuck out. When a blonde woman with a hard yet somewhat attractive face who just tried to fire you and make you a lab rat greets you in the hallway and asks you to call her Valerie, something is most definitely not of the good.

Yeah, so Jake reports in to work and he's all like -- "Dude, guess who I just saw. WTF?!?" It turns out she wants him to defend this African Prince who's going to university in DC (oh, isn't that convenient). Yeah, anyway, so for regular agents this would be a suicide job. Anyway, so Jake gets to go back to college, briefly, and it turns out that both he and the prince are nice people and they start to like each other. The prince isn't really happy about having bodyguards -- they tend to crimp his style, and then die on him. Still, the two manage to start to get along.

Of course, then the NSA decides that the king is hiding something and makes Jake spy on him. At first he tries to use the tiny, tiny robots in his body to get all the info from prince's PDA, but eventually ends up just "borrowing" the PDA and doing it the old fashioned way. That doesn't work, so he hacks in to the prince's laptop, and this time he does use his nano powers to do it. It was all very slick, I tell you. First he sat with the prince in the guy's calculus class and raised his hand. He then answered the prof.'s question wrong just so the prince would go down to the board to correct the mistake. And he, like, so knew the answer, too. Cause he majored in computer whatthehell in college, and all. The geekiness adds to the hotness factor because it's endearing, see.

Yeah, so once he got the info he handed it off to some chick in the hallway and Malik's girlfriend saw him. She was all like -- "You can't trust him," and he was all "Jake, you're fired," and Jake was all "You can't fire me!...He's not allowed to fire me, right? Right?! Yeah -- right! You can't fire me! Stop walking away! Hey!...Damn." Anyway, so the prince has a party for his birthday and Jake is all uninvited, but then he's at the entrance when boss lady (not the evil Valkyrie -- I mean Valerie -- his nice boss lady, who can also be scary sometimes but in a good way) sends pictures of people after the prince to his nifty picture phone. Jake recognizes one of them as having gone into the party and he rushes in and turns the lights on and knocks the guy down as he's pointing a gun at the prince. And Jake is re-hired. Go him.

Then the king dies (is killed). Aw, shucks. Poor guy -- did they have to kill his dad on his birthday? That's gotta suck major ass, dude. So the U.S. is now backing the guy who was going to take over the king's country, and the NSA is no longer expected to protect the prince, and Jake's like "What, we're just gonna let him die?!?" Moral dilemma! Moral dilemma! (they have a lot of those in this show)

So, yeah -- the subplot in this episode was Jake's partner and boss telling him that there was a way out -- a way to kill off his present identity and create a new one for him. They make it sound like Jake is going to be all "I can't work in such a morally ambiguous environment, where we cover up all the dirty little things the governemnt does, etc., when in fact anyone with a brain knows that he is in fact going to give his chance to dissappear to the prince.

Yeah, well he does this for both the prince and the prince's girlfriend, only it turns out she was supposed to get close to him and then kill him. So Jake and his partner Kyle go after him. It turns out that the girlfriend can't bring herself to kill him, so she's about to kill herself instead when Jake bursts in. The prince is all -- I feel like this is such a cop out, so he ends up going back to his country to stage a counter revolution.

I swear I think I've seen the girlfriend before. Ah, but you know that they always recycle the same black people throughout films and tv shows -- kinda like they recycle the hot guys in WB dramas (that is, the ones who aren't new and straight out of the modeling agency).

Oh, and of course the whole get out of jail free card was rendered null and void. Now Jake has to stay. Overall, this episode was fairly predictable. On the downside, there was no shirt removal. *grumbles* But still, it was wholly enjoyable. I thought, anyway.

Ooooh, and we got to see cool stuff like Jake playing leap frog with apartment buildings, and Diane being all scared that he's gonna leave when of course he won't cause theirloveissotrue!, not to mention we were guaranteed an entire season of this show, so he can't leave the cast just yet.

Think that's everything.

Oh, and I seriously need a Jake 2.0 icon. And an Angel icon. And a Smallville icon. And a new "muse" icon, because I'm tired of my old one. I guess they'll have to wait till after finals. Really, this post should probably have waited till after finals. Oh, well.

I swear I think I've seen the girlfriend before.

She was in the new Galactica, as the bridge bunny the Prez' boytoy made out with.

I can make you an icon. whatcha want, icon-wise?

Ooooh! Hmmm... Okay, you know how they do the whole zoom in thing with his nanites? I 'd like one with that image and the words "the tiny, tiny robots made me do it" -- thanks!

I was just going to suggest going to the queen of icons (that would be [livejournal.com profile] taraljc) but she beat me to it!

Also, if you want to catch up on any of the episodes, my recaps for the first ten episodes are here (http://www.panfandom.com/nuke/modules.php?name=News&file=categories&op=newindex&catid=41); that is, if you want to read them. My summary for "Prince and the Revolution" will be up early next week.

I usually make my own icons, but I asked [livejournal.com profile] taraljc make me one, since she offered.

I love your recaps, and read them all purely for the entertainment value. I can't wait to see your summary of "Prince and the Revolution."
