Lyrics

(lyrics websites differ greatly in their interpretations; here is mine)

I will never bother you
I will never promise to
I will never follow you
I will never bother you

Never speak a word again
I will crawl away for good

I will move away from here
You won't be afraid of fear
No thought was put in to this n'
Always knew it would come to this

Things have never been so swell
I have never failed to fail

Pain x 3
You Know your Right x 3

I'm so warm and calm inside
I no longer have to hide
Let’s talk about someone else
Sterling sliver (be)gins to melt

Nothing really bothers her
She just wants to love herself

I will move away from here
You won't be afraid of fear
No thought was put into this
Always knew to come like this

Things have never been so swell
I have never failed to fail

Pain x 5
You know Your Right x 5 [edited; originally x 17]

Oh my, that was fantastic. Kinetic, dark, tense, angry, desperate. I don't think I blinked once the entire time.

Here from [livejournal.com profile] vidding. I don't watch SPN, but I have to say that your vid was intensely cool. :D

holy.....

There was so much great movement, and your editing is like, mind-blowing. I love the quick cut-ins of various scenes and the choppy effect it created (not sure what the technical term is!). Awesome awesome video, so stylish, absolutely wonderful.

I'm so glad I saw this before heading to bed, but I've been awake for about 24 hours, so I hope I'm somewhat coherent.

This song punches me in the gut anyway, but using it for Dean is perfect. I got choked up several times. I love the flashes cutting through, especially the repetition of his face in In My Time. Great choices for "no thought was put into this." And the image of Dean in the backseat at the end--totally broke my heart.

This is so, so spectacular, and such a great use of the song, and - there are all these things I can say but, oh, oh man. At 2:16, when Dean brings Sam back and you turned his eyes black. And - I had to keep watching it, thinking, 'did that actually happen in the episode? Because it didn't, but that looks flawless.' And I don't know! Maybe someone will tell me it did happen, or rather that you cut in footage from Sam's possession episode, except that - that was just you, wasn't it? Oh my god that's creepy and amazing.

Other bits that stick out like crazy for me are when you intercut Jake's knife in the gravel with Dean burying the box at the crossroads, Dean looking at his mom during the djinn vision cutting back to a close-up of him spitting out blood after he stabs himself in the heart on 'felt so swell', and John's possessed self flickering in and out while he tells Dean to watch over Sam (while Dean screaming as the YED thrusts his soul back into his body flickers in and out, too).

And Dean pulling away from Sam on the bed, which shifts to Dean watching over Sam's dead body - and tiny Dean leaning forward to kiss baby Sam, which shifts into baby Sam unhappily swallowing demon blood, and - the beginning! With Jake killing Sam intercut with the Impala being hit!

Oh, this entire vid is just so, so spectacular and dark and clever and creepy and I keep watching it over and over. Amazing, subtle use of effects, too. Jeez, the black eyes, I can't get over that.

Wow, I loved that. Dean's kiss into Sam waking up with the demon eyes was a great transition. You did a beautiful job of reconstructing Dean's deconstruction in Season 2.

Thanks for sharing it!

Wow. That was really fabulous. Great movement and energy--I'll definitely echo the other comment that called it 'kinetic'. And some of the visual parallels you created are just amazing for Dean--the images of him carrying baby Sam and looking over into his crib juxtaposed with Sam's resurrection, the images of the knife in the mud and Dean burying the box at the crossroads, the images of his parents. It's just all tied together amazingly well and it makes for a both angsty AND kick-ass vid.

That was fantastic. It was just so dark and atmospheric . The editing was great too, I particularly loved the bit with Mary over the line "things have never been so swell" and the intercutting of Dean making the deal, and Sam waking up evil. Loved it!

Firstly, my apologies if this isn't the first time I've left you this comment.

Just wondering if you'd be interested in being listed as an editor on The Impala (http://the-impala.co.uk/), a new Supernatural vidding archive which [livejournal.com profile] _gater_ and I have set up to run alongside our existing Stargate vidding archive Kawoosh! (http://www.kawoosh.co.uk/)?

If you would, you can submit your vid HERE (http://the-impala.co.uk/submit/).

We do, however, have a hosting policy... which you can read about HERE (http://community.livejournal.com/the_kawoosher/25189.html), so if you don't already use your own webspace or one of the approved links, you'd need to upload to one of the links mentioned in order to be listed. This list has been drawn up by existing editors on our current SG database for their longevity and reliability, which is why we currently only accept and list links from one of the listed sites.

We also have an LJ comm running alongside the site if you're interested: [livejournal.com profile] impala_kaz2y5

If you're not interested, that's no problem, just let me know and I'll make sure to try not to bother you again - thanks =)

Hee! I masked out the whites of Sam's eyes in Adobe Premiere. I'm glad I could leave you wondering. I knew when I started making this that too many frills would just detract from the vid, so any effects would need to look like part of the original footage.

The coughing blood was one of my favorite bits. Mommy leaves, Dean bleeds. The shot of Dean screaming as he regains his life is, for me, the whole vid in a nutshell. From Dean's perspective, life=agony (or perhaps, given the lyrics, it would be more appropriate to say life=paiiiiiiiiiin).

I like to think the intercutting of Sam's death with the crash at the beginning of the vid serves as the thesis statement. The rest of the vid goes on to explain how the latter event led to the former.

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback!

Why thank you! I had no idea if the vid would have any appeal for non-viewers or if it would just be too context-heavy, so I'm really glad it worked for you.

The gut punch is exactly what I was going for. I believe my exact words to my beta's were, "I want people to leave my vid feeling like they just got punched in the face."

I waited years to find the right subject for this song. The lyrics read like a suicide note. What character could possibly be screwed up enough to vid to that? And then there was Dean.

Thanks for commenting!

Thanks for watching it!

The line was "I have never failed to fail" so I thought that particular effect was the best way to illustrate the big question: has he really saved Sam?

Dean breaks so pretty, doesn't he?

Movement is probably where I'm strongest as a vidder, and I'm a total movement nazi when I'm vidding. I'm really glad it all tied together for you. My intention was for the vid to be kind of a meta essay on all the various reasons Dean sold his soul at the crossroads.

Thank you so much for the feedback!

I've already told you this a billion times, but then I watch this vid again, and every time my jaw kinda drops.

Okay, how can I say this? In a pretentious ass-long sentence! Here it is:

I know you, so clearly I am not *surprised*, but more like always really, really impressed that you were ballsy enough to vid footage of Dean Winchester raising a shotgun to his face to Kurt Cobain's suicide-note song, and ambitious and talented and tenacious enough to pull it off in a vid (that does indeed feel like being punched in the face) while doing more than justice to both sources.

Because seriously? Shotgun to the head? To *Nirvana*? Who *DOES* that? YOU DO THAT. AND YOU DO IT BRILLIANTLY. Because yes, Dean is the person this song was waiting to be vidded to.

Hearts. And uh, punched-to-the-face.

Quick moving, intense vid! What intrigued me too is how reversing the frames in a few scenes made them seem new somehow (which is especially useful when some scenes are used often).

That was beautiful. It really was. That's always been one of my favorite Nirvana songs, so I was a little hesitant to watch (someone butchered this one song I loved with a HORRIBLY edited video, filled with effects that made my eyes hurt), but this was amazing. I love that you used CLEAR clips, instead of the ones available online for download, and the demon eyes creeped me out omg. That was awesome :D
