Smallville

So, let's get this over with.

I loved the beginning scene. The very subtle doing away with his pills into the paint cups. It's beautiful the way Lex just maintains subtlety and quiet grace even in the worst of circumstances. I couldn't help but snicker as Clark made his way into the insane asylum and met up with most of the meteor freaks he put away. And OMG -- Bobby Drake! Okay, so he has some different name on this show than he did in the X-Men movie, but I just love him. He is the cutest. And he always plays freaks. Seriously weird. He's the Iceman on X-Men, and he's whoever he is on Smallville, and I do recall him being some kind of werewolf character after recieving animal hormones while being on the wrestling team in some episode of Outer Limits. Yes, my memory is long when it comes to attractive male actors.

And the whole Clark/Lex scene. Lex just looked so, so *earnest.* And, okay, a little desperate, but that's not really a new thing with Lex. He has a tendency to look desperate often. Especially this season. And when Clark tells him no, and Lex just goes crazy with rage. That's called heartbreak folks. And I don't even mean that in the slashy sense. Lex -- betrayed as never before, and it's not pretty.

And the breakout scene. Lex, gorgeous, yelling crazy. But I bet he just knew that the only way he'd make it over that fence was to maintain a certain level of rage induced hysteria -- hence the snarling as his hands gripped the barbed wire. Too bad they caught him. The barbed wire -- the blood on his hands -- I wonder at the symbolism. I'm not really seeing him as Lady Macbeth in that scene muttering "Out, damned spot!" -- though he almost does match her in the level of crazy. Because unlike Lady Macbeth, he's not paying for crimes done. He's in fact, suffering for the sins of others. The folks running this show certainly do love their crucifixion references.

And Clark -- he knows Lex isn't crazy. He knows and it eats at him. Anguish! We see the look on his face when he tells Lex he can't break him out and Lex flies at him in a rage. Like he's got the weight of the world on his shoulders. I loved all the scenes with him trying to get Lex out the legal way. I was so angry at Clark at the end of Shattered for sitting by Lana's bedside instead of going to break out Lex, but with this episode, I finally started to forgive him for that.

I thought it was beautiful how the guy with the vendetta for all meteor freaks ended up in the Belle Reve with them. Loved the snickering. He tried to pick them off, one by one, and now he's just one of them. Jonathan Taylor Thomas had a nice cameo. He needs to work out, though. I mean, he's got the cute face, but he simply lacks the proper muscle definition to be on Smallville. This show has higher standards for male beauty than any other show on the WB -- which is saying something. I mean, everybody is gorgeous.

And then Clark found out Lionel was gonna do electroshock therapy on Lex. Oh God, I so hate him. Lionel is such a fucking bastard. Bastard! And the way he cringes every time he hurts Lex, as if he's human enough to cringe. The man so damn evil.

Okay, the Kents. What the fuck? Martha being all "You can't help Lex -- go visit Lana." Aaaagh! And you could see the emotions warring across Clark's face, the way he was all -- "Lana doesn't want me, and don't you people get that my boyfriend/soulmate needs me? How can I not go to him?" Dude -- those parents would do anything to protect Clark's secret. They're so fucking ruthless, and it's not pretty.

The rescue scene. Lovely. Lex all gorgeous and relieved, and Clark just knew he was doing the right thing, and he looked so not guilty, for once. And oh, those shitty meteor freaks, and I was angry at Bobby (I really need to learn his character's name in this show). And poor Lex bleeding from the mouth and he tries so hard. And of course Clark couldn't save him. Lex got the electroshock therapy. Everything worked out for Lionel (the ass). Makes me all weepy to think of it.

The end. It was weird. I was thinking -- you know, maybe the electroshock therapy didn't work. Because the look on Lex's face... It kinda had me thinking that even if Lex had forgotten, it was self preservation that made his brain block it out with the help of electroshock therapy, as opposed to the electroshock therapy actually working exactly as Lionel had wanted it to. Then again, maybe the therapy really had worked exactly as Lionel had wanted it too -- after all, it seems like the writers of Smallville would prefer to take the easy way out on this issue, rather than actually deal with any more complicated possibilities. And when Lex asked if Clark had anything to say to him, I knew that the reason Clark said nothing was to protect Lex, and not to protect himself. Because he just looked so heartbroken. And the *hug.* Perfect. Eyes closed and Lex looked so frighteningly innocent. Like perhaps he really had forgotten everything. Or perhaps he had simply accepted that this was the way it was going to be.

I just remember the look of furious pain on Clark's face at the end as he stood, arms tensed over the kitchen table. Jonathan's hand firm on his shoulder saying, "Well, at least this way your secret's safe." God, what an asshole! Sure Clark's secret is safe. And it only cost him his best friend/boyfriend/lover/soulmate.

Final notes: Ian Somerhalder is really fucking pretty. It was horribly annoying that the writers felt the need to pair him off with Lana. You know, I used to be rather indifferent to her, but after she went all hypocritical in the episode with the guy that had the meteor mutant vendetta, I really don't like her. At all. And she is so not worthy of the beauty that is Ian. Also? Lex looks sinfully good in form fitting black sweaters. My God. The hotness.

Bobby Drake = UBER SEXY = Shawn Ashmore.

and he was Eric Summers, aka 'Leach' from first season.

He and Clark must have gay meteor kids

It's pretty much impossible for me to see Clark with anyone other than Lex, so I'm going to say no to the gay meteor kids. Besides -- I don't like mpreg.

Bobby, on the other hand, is lovely pretty much no matter who in the X-Men fandom he's paired with. Boby/Remy, Bobby/St. John, and I was surprised into liking Bobby/Logan. Now I'm wondering if there's any good het out there.

And thanks for clearing up the whole name issue. Cause I was lazy and didn't really want to go looking.
