Okay, dude. If you like something? Don't post it in your journal when you can link back to it. I don't even understand why anyone would do that. I'm not talking about people who claim they created shit they didn't create. Obviously that's not cool. I'm talking about people who take things they like, like fic or vids, and post them in their journals, then credit the author.
It is one thing to post a link to an author's work. That's great. You should do that. Because people will go read it where the author originally posted it, and then give feedback to the author. It is another thing entirely to post the author's work, itself. You've crossed a line. Even if you credit the author.
It it the right of the fanfiction writer to determine how their work is distributed. I know if someone wanted to post my fic somewhere without my consent -- even if they gave me credit -- I'd be fucking annoyed. No one should be allowed to archive my work unless they ask me first and I give them permission. Of course, you won't get sued. But I will tell you that I don't like what you're doing.
This happens more with vids than with fic. People don't link back to where the vid was originally posted. Instead, they link directly to the vid. Okay -- if you're going to pimp somebody's stuff, there's a right way to do it. By which I mean -- do it in such a way as to maximize the possibility of people leaving feedback where the creator will see it.
Oh, and if you're doing the direct link thing because the post was friends locked? Assume that anything that's friends locked is that way for a reason. Ask the author before direct linking or redistributing.
You know, on the one hand, I feel like a bitch for whining about this. But on the other hand, I feel like it needs to be said. This is basic fandom etiquette.
*grumbles*
ETA: I understand that anyone who does this sort of thing doesn't mean to step on any toes. I realize that it's just a matter of ignorance. I just wanted to write this because I've been seeing this sort of thing a lot, and it's been increasingly grating on my nerves.

If someone did that to me I don't know what I'd do. I'm not really a "Bitch give me my fic back!" kind of person lol.
