Fic reccs!
Aug. 11th, 2004 06:10 pmQaF first. You guys know I love you best.
o0_magz updated her Lolita!Justin fic. The title says it all. Read here. You must friend her first.
bibboobedcanuck has updated her From A Safe Distance. Read here
quinn222's Correspondence fic is coming right along. If you haven't looked at it yet, go to her journal now. No, you won't be "dead to me" if you don't. I just won't like you very much.
I'm staring at my RPS and not doing anything about it.
I outlined the whole thing before I realized what a thug Randy is, so the characterization is a bit off. But BIBW read the notes/outline after Randy's thugishness was revealed and said something to the effect of "write it now", so I'll assume the characerization is at least enjoyable, if not believable.
Some multi-fandom reccs. Followed
rageprufrock's updated reccs page to a really fantastic Wesley/Lilah fic by
fox1013. One of AtS's better cannon ships. Go read here.
She also had some Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fic there. I suggest you read it just on principle.
Night-blooming Heartsease by
julad Because, like, OMG it's Snape/Neville. My secret kink pairing. I finally found an author who not only wrote S/N, but wrote it well. Like, it's in character and everything. The the plot is fantastic. FANTASTIC. Be sure to heed the warnings at the top of the page. Read here.
Some anime reccs. I'm not hugely into anime. I'm only familiar with about four fandoms. The authors I'm reccing here have fic in other anime fandoms that I didn't read because it would take too much research, not to mention bandwidth, to understand what's going on. Unless someone wants to, like, explain Naruto and Inuyasha to me real quick over IM.
DNAngel fic by Suppi-chan. Someone I found off
rageprufrock's updated reccs. I enjoyed it all, but was particularly fond of Submerged (in which Satoshi gets quite drunk and moody) and A Snowball's Chance (in which there is there is fighting and kissing and snow). Did I mention this fandom has multiple personalities? And is gayer than Smallville?
One Piece fic by
devosama. Found this all on my own, and boy am I glad I did. It's hot and it's violent and it's awkward and...just...perfect. OMG. Three long (and I mean looong) pieces of fic. They're in series, though they can also be read as standalones, and they are all worth reading. Beautifully in character. The sex is fucking hot. The shmoop is made palatable in that it's all disguised as bickering and insults. Did I mention that the sex is fucking hot? Also -- gratuitous use of Japanese slang. And male posturing. And eyeliner. And snark! SNARK! And also, hot sex. Tea and Sympathy, Nicotine and Gravy, and The Sleep of Reason.
It prolly wouldn't take all that long for me to explain the fandom well enough for you to read the fic, so if you want to know more about One Piece, just ask me in the comments thread of this post. Did I mention that this fandom is about pirates? Hot pirates? Hot, crazy pirates?

Date: 2004-08-11 10:55 pm (UTC)Oh, this post is also a notification that you've been friended. I was actually quite surprised to see that I hadn't friended you yet because I love your Superman video (you chose a wonderful development of scenes to coordinate with the lyrics and tempo/mood of the music... may we say hot?... and I broke out laughing [out loud] at the lip-syncs). Apparently I'd found your posts through foflists and forgot that I hadn't seen your posts on my own flist. *facepalms* With my amazingly short memory span, I'm not entirely surprised.
So, the person randomly friending you would be me, Cin. I'm fairly new to the QAF fandom (a year?), but have been in the HP fandom for over five years. May I ask what part of California you're from?

Date: 2004-08-11 11:20 pm (UTC)What? No, no, no -- the thuggishness is canon. I meant revealed in real life -- not revealed in my outline. And by thuggishness, I do mean that whole "fans are a bunch of annoying plebes and I can't stand Justin" thing Randy's got going. What my fic has is a distinct lack of thuggishness. The characterization is off because Randy isn't thuggish enough.

I am from the central valley in CA. I myself have been in the QaF fandom for about half a year. I've been in fandom in general for almost three years. I'm really a multi-fandom girl at heart, and will read just about any fic and watch just about any vid.
Thanks for friending! I hope you enjoy my journal.

I'm from Northern CA, so I was just curious. ;o)

Date: 2004-08-11 11:54 pm (UTC)Hee! Really? Surely not! I mean, his thuggishness is so cuuuute!
I feel like I should clarify. My worry over characterization has nothing to do with my reluctance to write. I'm always worrying about characterization whenever I write. There are exactly two things with the power to deter me from writing -- laziness and ADD. Both of which I happen to have in spades.
I'm from Northern CA, so I was just curious.
I figured. :)

Date: 2004-08-12 01:55 am (UTC)Anime...well, I really don't know anything about Naruto since I've never seen that anime but Inuyasha...now that one I do know about *points at icon*. Being that I tend to watch eps to it practicly every night. It's currently airing in the cartoon network during 'adult swim' times. Inuyasha is a very well known anime. It's pretty hard to miss out on it. Hehe. Anyways, IF you ever want to give it a try in checking it out, *depending* were you live, it airs at [12:30am or 11:30pm] monday-thursday. As well as saturday nights [12am or 11pm]. Below is a summary I gacked from one of the anime sites. lol. Hope this is what you were asking for! ^__^
Summary:
Kagome is your average schoolgirl living in present day Tokyo. She was brought through an ancient well by a demon to the past [sixteenth-century Japan]. There she finds out that she is the reincarnation of a deceased priestess who guarded the powerful Shikon jewel, which has the power to fulfill any ambition of man or demon. The jewel was reborn into her body. After saving the jewel from one of the many demons after the jewel, it shattered, and the Shikon shards were scattered across Japan. Now, Kagome must team up with the half-demon Inu-Yasha, [who stole the jewel 50 years ago to be stopped by Kagome's previous form], and new friends met along the way, to retrieve the shards before they fall into the wrong hands.

Date: 2004-08-12 08:28 am (UTC)I don't have a tv. Any anime, and for that matter any television at all that I watch I download -- hence my comment that it takes too much bandwidth. Both Naruto and Inuyasha are very well known, though Inuyasha is probably more well known. I have friends who were very into anime, so I generally have a vague idea of what's popular.
Thanks for the overview of the show. Unfortunately, I can't actually watch the show, since I lack both time and resources. I just want to read the fanfic, since generally when I find a good author, I want to read everything they've written. Sadly, a short plot summary doesn't really tell me anything about what makes a particular slash pairing attractive and why.
*sigh*
What I really need is a
