The Idea

So I was sitting and listening to this last night when I thought wouldn't this be hilarious if I vidded it to Sam and Gollum bickering over Frodo? Of course I told my roommate and we cracked up a lot. But the more I listened to it the more I realized this song was all about Gollum. The whole Gollum saga.

The song doesn't sound at all like it's story. The song sounds happy and hijinx-y -- more like Merry and Pippin. As adrienne2 (my fandom roommate) pointed out to me, Smeagle and Deagle did start out much like Merry and Pippin. The disparity between song mood an lyrics is important, I think. Because it's about Gollum. It's impossible to make people take Gollum seriously by presenting him seriously because Gollum is a joke. A really un-funny joke. A vid to him would have to be just that. Something that sounds like a parody, but in fact is totally serious.

This will require extensive song editing. And rewatching of LOTR, which is always fun.

I'm probably giving too much away here, but whatever. You'll all have forgotten this post entirely by the time I actually make this vid, right?



Not to worry, sdwolfpup. I promise to finish Simon!vid before embarking on any new projects. Right now I have some completely spastic cutting to fix in that one, and I'm avoiding it because I'm deep in hate!stage and barely restraining the urge to trash the whole thing for being so crapfully craptastic.
