I went to see it last night w/ [livejournal.com profile] permetaform.

Holy crap on a stick, that was cool.

I walked out of the theater thinking, "Hey, you know, that was kind of like...nothing. I've never seen anything like that."

I didn't think anything could approach my Sin City love, but perhaps thanks to my deep and abiding love for a good mindfuck, this definitely ties.

This movie probably isn't for everyone. I was more disturbed by the violence in it than in, say, Kill Bill or Sin City because the violence here was meant to be realistic, not artistic. If you saw those movies, though, and liked, them, you could probably stomach it, and should because it had an amazing storyline. The closest to which I can compare it is some Harry Potter darkfic I've come across. The style in which the story was told could only have happened in the medium of film. Everything about how the story was revealed was perfect.

And for all the vidders on my flist -- the editing? Spectacular. So, so, so spectacular. If I didn't like anything else about it I'd watch it again just for that.

I really need to go watch [livejournal.com profile] absolut3destiny's vid again. In fact, so does everyone else.

One thing I learned when editing that movie is that what was actually filmed really wasn't particularly graphic (much less visually graphic than kill bill) but my god the context, music and the editing sure as hell make it hit you hard. It's all part of the experience :D

Yes, the movie usually turned away from the really graphic scenes at the last moment. But then, the audience is still imagining it, and as that one character pointed out it's the imagining that's the worst part.
