ETA: So hard disk seems to be intact. Windows XP is broken. Will need to reinstall it, I think. Am currently running random Linux operating system that resident computer guy gave me the CD for. Can't really save anything on my computer, but I did get beta of Mutability pt. 2 in a locked post on my lj, so I can finish writing the chapter directly in the lj "edit post" window, e-mail it out, whatevs.

I wondered... that's a live distro, isn't it, you can run it straight from the disk? Supposed to be quite good, I believe :)

Yep! It seems to be working pretty well. Of course, I still want XP back, mainly because Adobe Premiere won't run on anything but Windows.
