Lyrics
Load up on guns and bring your friends
It's fun to lose and to pretend
She's over bored and self assured
Oh no, I know a dirty word
Hello (x6)
I'm worse at what I do best
And for this gift I feel blessed
Our little group has always been
And always will be until the end
Hello (x6)
With the lights out
It's less dangerous
Here we are now
Entertain us
I feel stupid
And contagious
Here we are now
Entertain us
Yeah
Hello, hello, oh...
With the lights out
It's less dangerous
Here we are now
Entertain us
I feel stupid
And contagious
Here we are now
Entertain us, yes
A mulatto
An albino
A mosquito
My libido
A denial (x4)
Yes, a denial

Date: 2004-04-20 05:08 pm (UTC)Thanks to Rhi for hosting your vid. I couldn't download your others, except for one and that was due to dumb luck. *feels like an ass*
Will be watching this one again and again. Thanks! xoxo

LOL -- but seriously. Very flattered that you liked my vid in spite of the music.

Date: 2004-04-20 05:34 pm (UTC)My next QaF vid is going to be humor, though. Not serious at all. I have it somewhat planned out.

Date: 2004-04-20 09:18 pm (UTC)I really liked the long shot of Brian in the blue-lit back room while the piano plays. There's something really desperate about it. Lovely.
Also love the shot from 308 with Justin in the bar after Brian has walked off. The look on his face goes so well with the pace of the music and the sense of deep sadness in her voice.
The 308 sex scene in slow? That's what I was talking about in the first paragraph. Very nicely done, imo. It just fits the music and the tone. Sometimes I think it is about tone. Um, I am sleepy and obviously need to go to bed since I'm now talking about TONE for god's sake.
Oh, and I really love the merge between Brian dancing alone and the 309 opening sequence. That's just really nice and I've not see that combo before. It struck me as rather fresh.
BTW, your source for 310 is so much prettier than mine. If you're ever willing to share, I'd kiss your pretty feet. :)
Oh, your 311 source is so much prettier than mine, too!
I love the end. I like the scenes you chose for the repetition of denial...I can't explain why. I'm losing words tonight, but it seems like they fit because...there just seems this hint of inevitability to that scene that lends it to feeling, for lack of a better term, desperate, when set against this music.
Thanks for the vid! I liked it so much! :D

Date: 2004-04-20 10:51 pm (UTC)LOL -- no you're totally right. The song's so freaking slow. A lot of scenes were just moving too fast for the song.
I really liked the long shot of Brian in the blue-lit back room while the piano plays.
That scene just makes my heart hurt. Of course, the reason it's a long shot is because it's at half speed. I think the majority of this vid was at half speed.
Also love the shot from 308 with Justin in the bar after Brian has walked off
I really liked making that part. "Our little group has always been and always will be until the end." That in contrast with Justin just standing there alone an disillusioned.
The 308 sex scene in slow? That's what I was talking about in the first paragraph. Very nicely done, imo.
Personally my favorite part of the vid. I'm so glad you liked it!

That's exactly the reaction I was hoping for! While I was making that part I was kind of worried because *everyone* uses those scenes in their vids. I thought maybe if I spliced them it would seem more original.

I decided early on that I was going to use this set of scenes for the ending. Brian and Justin didn't really have this beautiful happily-ever-after reunion. They were both still really damaged from the breakup. There relationship was still kind of fucked up. I think the reunion sex was a reprieve from all that. They were both just pretending everything was okay for a moment. Have sex now. Fix relationship later. So in my mind, it just fit to put that scene to those words.
Gah. Philosophising again.
I'll have highspeed again within a month. I can't send you the whole episodes until then, but if you want clips of my pretty source I can make clips for you to send sooner.
Thanks so much for the detailed feedback! You can see from my equally detailed reply that I very much appreciated it.

The pace of the music, the scenes and just everything go so, so perfectly together.

Date: 2004-04-21 12:26 am (UTC)You finished your pretty vid.
Okay, loved the first chorus.
Oh no, I know a dirty word
Brian's dirty word is so "regret". Or "longing". Anything to do with Justin. The hustler scene is a good choice. It could be taken so many ways.
All the "hellos" looked so painful. Like the greeting they give each other are. Good choice of the first one. It's the shocked look on Brian’s face that gives all the "hellos" that feel to them.
The second set also struck me as a resignation for Brian. Another painful realization for him. That Justin wasn't with Ethan anymore, but he can't have him back even though he wants too.
And I agree with Rhi on the backroom piano spot. It’s such a needy thing. Like Brian keeps on getting punched in the gut every time he encounters Justin.
With the lights out
It's less dangerous
Feels poetic and very emotional.
And Brian dancing alone and with Justin. Dream like. From Brian’s POV.
I love in the end, for every denial, it cut to the blurred glass scenes. It fit because of what they could have, shown in between, from what they are giving themselves. A blurred perspective. That it was here and now it's gone. That they can't get it back, when they really can.

Yeah, the scene seemed to fit those lyrics. I guess because there is something a bit dirty and guilty about sleeping with someone because they look like the person you really want.
All the "hellos" looked so painful.
The first set of hellos kind of stand out from the rest of the vid. Everything else is slowmoving. I thought about redoing it, but ended up liking the contrast it made.
The second set also struck me as a resignation for Brian.
I think I picked that scene for the second set of hello's because it was like they were seeing each other in a way they hadn't seen eachother in a while. Kinda like a greeting.
There is that sense of frustration about it, though. Closer than they were, but still not close enough to touch. Explains the resignation.
And Brian dancing alone and with Justin. Dream like.
I didn't think of it that way when making it, but now that you mention it -- it is kind of dreamlike. Like the reality is Brian dancing alone, and the dream is Brian dancing with Justin.
Cool.
I love in the end, for every denial, it cut to the blurred glass scenes. It fit because of what they could have, shown in between, from what they are giving themselves. A blurred perspective. That it was here and now it's gone. That they can't get it back, when they really can.

Date: 2004-04-21 12:54 am (UTC)The slowed-down scene of Brian in the backroom, clearing his nose of nasty drugs and even nastier pain over the piano solo was pure magic.
I've always been a little confused by some of the lyrics in that song, so I liked what you did with them, especially the "i'm worse at what i do best" over Brian and the trick - his pain over losing Justin is permeating even the things he *does* do best; and the "our little group has always been..." over Brian and Mikey, and then Justin, all alone.
So many places where the lyrics really fit with the clips used - I'm vewwy impressed. :)
And I had a mini-squee over every "Here we are now..." because of the clips you used. My beautiful boys, together.
As for the song, Tori does it for me in a way that no-one else can, so that was pure bliss. <333

Date: 2004-04-21 01:36 am (UTC)Hee! I have no idea. It's what I call it. I sometimes have to make up my own terminology when I'm yelling at WMM for crashing on me repeatedly.

Hee! The thing is, this isn't really a Brian song, or a Brian/Justin song. The lyrics don't fit. But I really, really wanted to make a vid out of it, so I told myself I'd find a way to make the lyrics fit if it killed me.
I'm glad I succeeded, for the most part, anyway.

Buffyfan9005: Brilliant. It went beautifully with the words.
ericafawai: leave a comment!
Buffyfan9005: I cant lol. I'm not an LJer anymore.
ericafawai: sure you can
ericafawai: I accept anonymous comments
Buffyfan9005: Haha. I still have my buffyfan journal. It's just the principle of it lol.
ericafawai: so by this principle you won't comment at all?
Buffyfan9005: Lol no. But I do love the video. It's beauitful. It was linear and flowed beautifully.
ericafawai: so instead you're going to put all your feedback in this conversation, forcing me to save it
Buffyfan9005: Yes. I am. Deal. lol.
ericafawai: picture me sticking my tongue out at you
Buffyfan9005: *pictures* Nice.
ericafawai: that was not the effect I was hoping for
