I am glad you liked the vid!

As for your technical problems -- I might be able to shed some light on that.

I did not include a codec in the download. Even if I had, it wouldn't have installed itself automatically. Xvid must have already been downloaded and installed on your computer, and had probably been sitting there dormant for a while. My vid does try to use xvid to play because that is the codec I used to make it. If xvid is not installed (in your case, you deleted it), my vid can also play with the divx codec.

Sometimes different video codecs can interfere with each other's performance (note: this does not generally happen when you download individual codecs as needed, but it can be a problem when you download multiple codecs in a codec package). It sounds like this was the only time xvid caused you problems. That's probably because this was the only time the codec was active.

It's possible that the xvid codec you had was a corrupted version/got corrupted at some point while it was on your computer. It's also possible that for some reason or other, your computer simply doesn't like the xvid codec. I'm positive, however, that the problem did not originate with you downloading my vid.

You could be correct on the xvid not being activated until your vid looked for it.

When I researched the problem the windows help site said that windows and xvid had a compatibility problem that hadn't been resolved yet.

It looks like that codec was DL'd by my daughter when she had this computer sometime between June and Aug. of 2004. So, yep I didn't get it from the DL of your vid. SORRY.

But boy I sure did freak when I couldn't play any of my vids. phew.
