tiddlywinks and fluff

Don't ask me about the subject line. It makes no sense, even to me.
I watched Ginger Snaps and Ginger Snaps II: Unleashed. They were good films, I suppose. Horror films. Canadian, I believe -- they never made it to US theaters. Or maybe I'm wrong and they were US films, but everybody thought they sucked and that's why they never made it to theaters. In any case, I liked them. The second one had a *totally* fucked up ending. But eh -- what do you expect from a horror film? Eric Johnson (aka Whitney Fordman from Smallville) looked hot -- in the second one, that is. He wasn't in the first one. "Beautiful" by Joydrop played during the end credits of the second movie, which is why I have it as my current music.
I'm on a horror films kick, I guess. I also downloaded The Lost Boys and Interview with the Vampire. I've already seen both -- I just wanted to have them on CD. I'm downloading Underworld.
queenofalostart told me it was good, as did my sister.
Yes, it's true. I have no internet scruples whatsoever. I don't care a whit for copyright infringement. I'm a bad, rude woman.
Hmmm, what else...oh! I made an icon. But I'm not using it. So I'll post it here, and if nobody on my friends list wants it I'll post it to

Date: 2004-02-13 08:21 am (UTC)DUDE, where did you get this? I so need a copy!
Re:
Date: 2004-02-13 09:32 am (UTC)Do you have an internet connection that's DSL or better? If so, then do you have bit torrent? If not, download it here (http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/download.html).
Once you've done that, you can download the movies. Downloads start out slow, but pick up speed. Just click on the links below.
Ginger Snaps (http://213.158.116.18/torrents/1067/Ginger.Snaps.2000.INTERNAL.DVDRip.XviD-FiNaLe_[bt-gm]_[EFnet].torrent)
Ginger Snaps II: Unleashed (http://213.158.116.18/torrents/1048/Ginger.Snaps.II.Unleashed.LIMITED.DVD.SCREENER.XviD-NOX_[bt-gm]_[EFnet].torrent)
These links were found on Suprnova.org (http://suprnova.org/). You'll be able to find all sorts of video files, computer games, computer software, etc. on this webite.
But wait! We're not done yet. Each of these downloads doesn't give you a regular [.avi] file. It gives you a file folder, with the video split up into many small segments. This is good if you want to put the video on a CD, since each video file as a whole is too large for a regular 700 MB disk. This is not good if you want to watch the video, because the video is unwatchable in this form. In order to watch each movie, you must join all these small segments. The program you need to join the segments is called WinRar, and it can be downloaded here (http://download.com.com/3000-2250-10007677.html). Once you download and install it, open it and click on the icon that says wizard (for novice users). Select the "unpack an archive" option, then open one of the file folders you just downloaded using bit torrent, select its contents and tell the program to run. These directions will be clearer to you when you're actually doing them.
Okay, once that's done, a new folder will be created with the movie inside it, only this time as a single, [.avi] video file. This folder will appear on your desktop, unless you specify somewhere else for it to be created while you're using the program wizard.
[.avi] files will play in Windows Media Player as long as you have the right codec (file decoder). If the files won't play, then you can download the codec here (http://download.divx.com/divx/DivX511Bundle.exe) (this is a direct link to the download). If that doesn't work, try downloading Divx. It is a program created to play [.avi] files, though I believe mpegs will also play in it. Download Divx here (http://www.divx.com/divx/?src=toptab_divx_from_/index.php).
Okay, I probably covered some stuff you already knew, but I figured it would be wise of me to cover all the bases. So there you go. All bases covered. All software is free to download. However, the WinRar download may or may not be a trial version, so I don't know if you'll be able to use it for free forever.

Date: 2004-02-13 02:08 pm (UTC)First off, the bit torrent page I gave you the link to includes a Mac version of the program, so you can go ahead and get that.
Once you have that, the video file links should download the same way they do on Windows.
WinRar has a Mac equivalent. The download is listed here (http://www.rarlabs.com/download.htm) (see RAR 3.30 for MacOS X). Since I've never used this version of the software, I'd suggest you just follow all directions carefully. It probably doesn't work that differently from the Windows version.
The Mac version of Divx is here (http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/).
There! You're in business!
If all else fails, find me on AIM. I might be able to just IM the files to you.
Re:
Date: 2004-02-13 02:25 pm (UTC)The only versions of the Ginger Snaps movies that I saw were in this form, which is why I included all of this information about WinRar and it's Mac equivalent.
Most movies will be in either of these two forms, I'm pretty sure. I usually try to get of movies that are at least 650 MB in size, and closer to 730 MB. Anything smaller probably has really bad resolution (unless your movie is unusually short). If your download is over 1 GB, that probably means you're getting an mpeg version, instead of an avi. Mpeg encoding isn't as efficient as avi encoding.
Bit torrent downloads will sometimes stall. If that happens, just close the download window, then click on the same download you did before. The download will pick up where it left off.
