Got invited to join a new Gale/Randy community. Still debating with myself whether I should join. I wish someone had made a community for QaF RPF in general. Of course the majority of the fic would still be Gale/Randy, but then at least gen fic and other pairing fic would have somewhere to go, and I'd have somewhere to post/find it. I mean, I love Gale/Randy to death, but that's no reason to confine my fic writing/reading to a single pairing.

But as is typical with fandom, no one has love for the rare pairings. A lot of people read fic, I suppose, because it strengthens their love for their OTP. I got more feedback for my last Gale/Randy than for anything else I had ever posted. And it's not because it's the best thing I've ever written -- at least not in my opinion. It's because it had the most mass appeal. Gale/Randy has become a really popular pairing, but as yet, there isn't that much G/R fic available. Us few authors who do write it are sort of in the spotlight. My fic had further mass appeal in that It incorporated a lot of elements that people prefer when reading fic: humor, angst, pr0n, first time sex, etc. I imagine I would have gotten much less feedback, and probably been friended by less people (23 -- WTF?!), if not for the nearly 1500 words worth of angsty, explicit sex.

Now I didn't write my last fic thinking that it would have a lot of mass appeal. I just wrote what I wanted to write. I wrote nearly 1500 words worth of pr0n because I actually *like* to write pr0n. I wrote the fic because I knew it would be a challenge. Gale POV was really hard for me because I don't think like him at all. The fact that it had mass appeal was pretty much a happy coincidence.

When it comes to reading fic, I often just read for the pairing. But I also read just to read. I can generally read anything, regardless of pairing, as long as it's well written. It's how I got over my RPS squick so many months ago. [livejournal.com profile] queenofalostart started reccing me LOTRPS, and I discovered that my enjoyment of a story didn't really depend on pairing (threesome, orgy --- those LOTRPS'ers love their kinks) so much as quality of writing.

So, yeah. Thinking about doing some Thea fic. She's so delightfully flighty and *blonde.*

What if...

I included Gale/other and Randy/other in the Gale/Randy community? Would that help at all? Though I have to admit, within the QAF community - at least the part that admits to liking RPS - we're all pretty Gale/Randy obsessed. Partly cause there have been little signs and it just seems possible. ::shrug:: I can only speak for myself, but for me to enjoy RPS, there has to be some element of possibility to it. Like - I've read some great Tom Welling/Michael Rosenbaum stuff, and they manage to work around Tom's marriage in a plausible way. Does that make sense?

But then... you and I are only 88% compatible. So maybe not. :-/

Well, I mean, it's your community. You should do what you want with it. My main thing was wanting to see stuff written about the other actors, not necessairily about Randy or Gale at all, not even necessairily having a pairing. I'd like to see some gen fic. I wouldn't expect to see any of that in your community. Obviously your community isn't about that.

And none of this really has any influence on whether or not I join, just so you know.

ooh look, we're uber-compatible. so what exactly does that mean, i wonder...

don't know what you're thinking here, but i've been thinking a voyeur!thea thing with g/r could work really well. except that pulling someone else in like that probably qualifies you for an even lower ring of the special hell. but hey, we'll all be there with you!

I doubt there would be any sex if I wrote a Thea fic. I doubt there'd be much g/r either, except in a few random references. If I were to write Thea fic, it would actually be about Thea.

As to voyeur sex, I've read it before and I don't have a problem with it, but it doesn't get me hot, so I wouldn't write it.

I like your general RPS community idea. I'm a closeted Randy/Peter 'shipper. ; )

At times this thought scares me, but I'd even read Gale/Michele. :x

Ah hell, I'd read any pairing, I have no shame.
